Boehner Speaker of the House H-232, The Capitol Washington, DC The Honorable Kevin McCarthy House Majority Leader H-107, The Capitol Washington, DC The Honorable Steve Scalise House Majority Whip H-329, The Capitol Washington, DC Dear Speaker Boehner, Leader McCarthy and Whip Scalise: We, the undersigned, representing millions of Americans, write to you to express our deep concern and horror over the recent revelations that Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is engaged in unethical and possibly illegal abortion practices connected to the trafficking of unborn children s organs. We urge you to move legislation to remove federal funding from Planned Parenthood, or at the very least, a moratorium on funding PPFA, and attach such a measure to must-pass legislation in September in order to help guarantee the Senate votes again to defund this abortion giant. The Senate bi-partisan vote that received over a majority of Senators was the first step in Congress s attempt to address federal complicity in Planned Parenthood s abort-for-organs campaign. As soon as Congress returns from August recess, the House can and must act to send a defunding measure back to the Senate while the exposure of these atrocities continue to shock the American conscience and build momentum to stop federal complicity in this organization s inhumane practices. PPFA is allegedly involved in the horrible and unspeakable activity of trafficking in the body parts of aborted babies for financial profit. These practices include the manipulation of abortion methods to more easily obtain their organs. This, despite requiring the mothers to sign a consent form stating that the abortion method will in no way be changed to procure tissue. Video footage of top level PPFA officials show systemic and questionable disregard for the law. PPFA s Senior Director of Medical Services referenced the ban on partial birth abortion, saying nonchalantly that laws are up to interpretation and can be easily sidestepped through wordsmithing. Similar lack of regard for the law prohibiting valuable consideration for fetal tissue is shown by the Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast who boasts about the profitability of her department, which handles the procurement and sale of babies bodies and body parts. She explained that intact fetal cadavers are split into different shipments to hide profit. She shrugs it off: It s all just a matter of line items.
2 Taxpayer dollars would be much better spent at more comprehensive health care centers that do not profit off of abortion and trafficking in hearts, lungs, and livers. Money currently being granted to PPFA through the various funding streams should be stopped and made available instead to health centers that actually care about women and unborn children, and are able to provide more comprehensive health services for women. We applaud efforts at the committee level to engage in the much needed investigations of Planned Parenthood s abortion practices. Yet while federal and state investigations ensue, we urge you to act to withhold funding for PPFA and do so on a must-pass bill. We will support such must-pass legislation if it contains a provision to defund Planned Parenthood. It is time for America to wash its hands of the blood money we offer to PPFA year after year.
