3 Position Requirements (as defined by the SGA Constitution) President: a) To preside over the Executive Branch of the SGA. b) To serve as the official representative of the Student Body in all matters of direct relevance to the University. c) To call for special sessions of the Senate, with a minimum of ninety-six (96) hours notice to be given to the members of the body prior to the proposed beginning of the meeting. d) To address the student body on an annual basis concerning the State of the University. e) To recommend to the Senate for their consideration such measures as he or she shall judge necessary and expedient. f) To propose the creation or dissolution of Cabinet positions within the Executive Branch, subject to the confirmation of the Senate. g) To nominate individuals to serve as Directors of the specific Cabinet positions, or to ask for the recall thereof, with the confirmation of all nominations to be approved by a simple-majority of the Senate. h) To schedule meetings of the Executive Branch, facilitate the coordination thereof, and provide a means of excusal for members who are unable to attend such meetings. i) To function as co-signatory on the withdrawal of funds from any and all financial accounts held and maintained by the SGA. j) To recognize ambassadors to the SGA who have been duly designated by on-campus student organizations. k) To veto Senate legislation within thirteen (13) days of passage to include, at a minimum, a written explanation for the action. l) To serve as a member of the SGA Tribunal. m) To maintain a minimum of fifteen (15) consistent office hours per week.

4 Vice President: a) To attend and serve as the presiding officer at all meetings of the Senate. b) To serve in the capacity of President, in the event of the temporary absence, removal, or resignation of the President. c) To attend all meetings of the Executive Branch, except those sessions to which he or she has received excusal from the President. d) To propose the creation of special committees within the Senate for the purpose of pursuing a singular or temporary interest, subject to simple-majority confirmation by the Senate, and upon the condition that the committee s charter will expire at the end of the Vice President s term in office. e) To oversee and regulate the system under which an article of legislation must be introduced to the Senate for debate, subject to the Bylaws of the Senate. f) To serve as a member of the SGA Tribunal. g) To work in conjunction with the Secretary of the SGA to distribute all necessary copies of legislation and documentation to the members of the Senate. h) To excuse members of the Senate from attendance to a specific meeting, with excusal of the members being dependent on the consent of the Speaker of the Senate. i) To maintain a minimum of ten (10) consistent office hours per week. Senators: a) To attend all regular, scheduled meetings of the Senate, except in those instances in which the Senator has received excusal from attendance. b) To have one (1) vote in all legislative matters. c) To sponsor articles of legislation. d) To serve as a member of at least one (1) standing committee. e) To attend all scheduled meetings of the standing committee(s) that he or she serves upon, except in those instances in which the Senator has received excusal from attendance. f) To hold at least one (1) office hour per week. g) To abide by this Constitution, the policies of the University, the laws of the state of Alabama, and those of the national government of the United States of America.

5 Types of Campaigning These are the tools available to your campaigning needs; campaigning in different educational buildings is subject to the regulation and permission of the Deans of the individual colleges of which the buildings belong: Dean s Office College of Science, MSB C207 Dean s Office College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science, MH 256 Dean s Office College of Engineering, EB 102B Dean s Office College of Nursing, NB 201 Dean s Office College of Business, BAB 202G4 Dean s Office College of Education, RH 322 Dean s Office Honors College, FFH 1. Charger Student News: The SGA Elections Committee will advertise the SGA Election in the Charger Student News. Individual candidate advertisements will not be permitted. 2. Student Events Calendar: The SGA Elections Committee will advertise the SGA Election in the Student Events Calendar. Individual candidate advertisements will not be permitted. 3. Charger Union, CTC, and Shelby Center Electronic Screens: The SGA Elections Committee will advertise the SGA Election on the electronic screens. Individual candidate advertisements will not be permitted. 4. The Toilet Paper: The SGA Elections Committee will advertise the SGA Election in the Toilet Paper. Individual candidate advertisements will not be permitted. 5. The UAH Sign: The SGA Elections Committee will advertise the SGA Election on the UAH sign located outside of the CTC. Individual candidate advertisements will not be permitted. 6. Residence Hall Flyers/Posters (cost of flyers) a. Must be approved by the RD of each dorm and hung in places designated/approved by the RD or appropriate residence hall staff. 7. Chalking (cost of chalk) a. Chalking is permitted on campus except on BENCHES, BRICKS, BUILDINGS, and BREEZEWAYS (chalking cannot be placed anywhere that rain will not wash it away). b. No registration of chalking is required. 8. Flyers/Posters (cost of flyers) a. No centralized distribution or approval system on campus. b. Each building requires approval for posters/flyers and departments/student organizations are required to get their own approval and distribute flyers/posters themselves. c. Posters/flyers for the Charger Union are approved at the Information Desk and in CTC 100 for the Conference Training Center. 9. Social Media a. All social media campaigning must be between the designated campaign period and must follow all campaign rules.

6 Rules for Campaigning 1. Official campaigning shall begin on the published date and will end on the last day of elections. 2. Students may not actively or passively campaign prior to the onset of official campaigning and must apply for candidacy prior to campaigning. 3. Use of SGA property (ie. Computers, office equipment, office supplies, golf cart, etc.) and campaigning within the confines of the SGA office is prohibited. 4. All signage must be in compliance with University policies and procedures related to signage. 5. Campaign chalking shall also be limited or prohibited in certain areas in accordance with University Policies and the specific policies of individual colleges and buildings. 6. Cost of campaign material should not exceed $150 and can be audited if a question arises keep your receipts! 7. No specific University office and/or faculty and staff may campaign on your behalf. That includes s, social media, and word of mouth through any particular office, college, or faculty/staff member. The following shall outline the major and minor violations applicable in this election: A) Any threat or act of violence against any member of a campaign ticket B) Any sabotage of any member s campaign C) Any attempt to commit extortion or blackmail D) Any attempt to commit a bribe in exchange for a vote E) Destruction or theft of another campaign s materials (including posted signs, chalking, etc) F) Attempting to cast more than one vote or tamper with electronic voting G) Slander or libel against another candidate or campaign H) Condoning or authorizing the destruction of another campaign s materials I) Sliding material under doors of residence halls or placing on vehicles in parking lots J) Posting signs in unauthorized locations K) Chalking in unauthorized locations L) Early campaigning M) Using Student Government resources N) Exceeding the spending cap of $150 The Parliamentarian will have final authority to determine violations in consultation with the Dean of Students. ***Candidates who are found to be in violation of campaigning rules and procedures will be subjected to sanctions in keeping with the severity of the violation which could include being removed from eligibility for the election.
