8 March ANDHRA PRADESH GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY.7 STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS SB Venkateswara Institute Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati, registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in the year 1993, was declared as an University in the year 1995 by Sri Venkateswara Institute Medical Sciences University Act, 1995 (Act No ). The University was established with the objects to create a centre excellence for providing medical care, and research facilities a high order, including continuing medical education, etc.the SVIMS is administered by agoverning Council headed by the Chief Minister as Chairman and is run by the Director as per the provisions the said Act. The University at present is fering highest medical specialty degrees like MD, DM, MCh apart from various under graduate, Post Graduate and allied sciences degrees. Every year about 200 students are being awarded Degrees/Diplomas. The students have been requesting for awarding their degrees by the Vice-Chancellor, as when they apply for jobs and for higher education within the Country and abroad, the degrees given by the Director. SVIMS are not being appreciated. Since, the fice the Vice-Chancellor Is not provided in the Act, Government have decided to change the nomenclature the Chairman and the Director the SVIMS University as the Chairman-cunvChanceltor and the f^rector-cum--vice-chancelk)r the said University respectively so as to ensure wider acceptance the degrees awarded by the University across the academic and pressional spheres, by suitably amending the relevant provisions the Act According to II the Act, the Hon'ble Chief Minister Andhra Pradesh is the Chairman, and the Minister in charge Medical Education is the First Vice-Chairman, the Chairman, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirupati is the Second Vice-Chairman the Executive Board. But due to the

9 8 ANDHRA PRADESH GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY [PartJV-A heavy schedule the Hon'bte Chief Minister who is the Chairman, the meetings the said Executive Board are not being convened as contemplated, under the provisions 14 the Act, It has therefore been decided to designate the Hon'bie Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare as the Chairman the Executive Board SVIMS, Tirupati in the place Hon'bie Chief Minister to overcome the sa»o inconvenience and for administrative convenience, by suitably amending tl the Act This Bill seeks to give effect to the above decisions KONDRU MURAL!
