3 3 Biographical Sketch George Mackenzie Clark (d. 1904) was admitted as a student-at-law by The Law Society of Upper Canada in 1845 and called to the Bar in Clark served as a judge of the County Court of the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham as well as a judge of the High Court of Justice for Ontario. Clark served on several commissions of inquiry, including the Royal Commission into the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Royal Commission on the Inter-Colonial Railroad. Clark resigned his judgeship in 1887 to accept the position of solicitor for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Clark held several other appointments, including Revising Officer for the Electoral District of the County of Northumberland. Clark died in Cobourg, Ontario on November 9, Custodial History The records in this fonds were presented to the Riddell Canadian Library by Frank Meade Field, K.C., of Cobourg, Ontario, in Immediate Source of Acquisition The fonds was transferred to the archives from an unknown source in Scope and Content cm of textual records Fonds consists of certificates appointing Clark a judge of the County Court of the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham and a judge of the High Court of Justice for Ontario. Certificates naming Clark to other appointments, including two commissions of inquiry and a Queen s Counsel are also included. The fonds also includes two legal documents and newspaper clippings of a letter to the editor of The Globe.
