2 A MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR Happy Spring Everyone! I hope you had a restful long winter s nap and you re ready to come out of hibernation, and do the work of Optimism! It s time to help the youth of your community! The spring sports are here and the smell of Tri-Star soccer and bike safety programs are in the air! Volunteer to help your local JOI Clubs with their projects. Don t have a local JOI Club, time for you to get off the bench, and get in the game, by helping your Club build a new JOI Club in your city or township! It s hard to believe the first half of the Optimist Strong Year is over! I want to take this opportunity to personally invite you to attend the 3 rd Quarter Ohio District Conference May 5, 2018 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Dublin, Ohio. This Conference is not just for District officers, Lt. Governors, Club Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers, although I invite every single one of them to attend. This Conference is for every member of all 67 Clubs to attend! In addition to our District Board Meeting, we have Membership & New Club Building awards to present, back by popular demand, Roundtable breakouts with 3 topics to learn, share and exchange ideas between Clubs. We also have the awesome Oratorical Contest, Essay Contest and CCDHH Contest winners to present with awards. JOI District presentation and important Committee announcements will be shared, along with key information about the July International Convention and August Ohio District Convention! The theme for the May District Conference is Run for the Roses! That means Fun & Fellowship! You have to see the awesome snacks, drinks, theme costumes and decorations that Hospitality Chairman Rick Armstrong has in store for you! Kentucky Derby Fans have no fear! We will be watching the Run for the Roses immediately following a special Derby Dinner planned by First Lady Jennifer! (No green beans!) See you at the May District Conference! 13 OHIO DISTRICT OF OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL SECOND QUARTER DISTRICT CONFERENCE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Embassy Suites 5100 Upper Metro Place Dublin, OH Friday, February 10, 2018 Call to Order: The regular quarterly meeting of the District Executive Committee was called to order by Governor Tom Kendo at 7:03 p.m. Attendance: The following members of the Executive Committee were present: Governor Tom Kendo, Governor-Elect Sue Armstrong, Immediate Past Governor Cherie Gentry, Past Governor Bryan McCormick, District Secretary Jim Elder, District Treasurer Jeff Dundon, Lt. Governors: Richard Henson (Zone 3), Sharon O Neil (Zone 4), Rob McAndrew (Zone 5), Chuck Davis (Zone 7), Harry Tolhurst (Zone 8), Ray Able (Zone 9), Steve Hamman & Jan Hamman (Zone 10), Mike McGrew (Zone 13), Myron Rheaume (Zone 14) and Cherie Gentry (Zone 15 she is also Immediate Past Governor-as shown above). District Secretary Jim Elder presented and moved for approval the 1st Quarter Ohio District Board Minutes as posted on the District Website on 1/9/18, and an notification sent by the District Bulletin Editor on 1/11/18. Motion was seconded by Myron Rheaume and passed with no dissent. 2. Sharon O Neil seconded the motion. The motion passed with no dissent.

14 Acceptance of Financial Report: 1. District Treasurer Jeff Dundon moved for approval the 1st Quarter Financial Report as posted on the District Website on 1/9/18, and an notification sent by the District Bulletin Editor on 1/11/18. Motion was made to accept this with a correction to column #1, Budget, changing the heading date from 1-Oct-16 to 1- Oct 17. With this correction, the motion was seconded by Chuck Davis and passed with no dissent. 2. District Treasurer Jeff Dundon moved for approval the Final Financial Report, subject to audit and financial review, as posted on the District Website on 1/9/18, and an notification sent by the District Bulletin Editor on 1/11/18. The motion was seconded by Sue Armstrong and passed with no dissent. Old Business: Jeff Dundon, District Treasurer asked that Clubs advise him of their correct billing address (preferred) or mail billing address. New Business: District Policies & Procedures: A request, with suggested revisions & updates to the Ohio District Policies & Procedures was received by the District Secretary on 10/19/17, at least 90 days before the Conference, and was published by the District Bulletin Editor on 12/11/17. Included with this was a motion to change Article 1, Section 7, Item A, Section 3, to lower the minimum number of clubs in a Zone from 4 to 3. This motion was made by Sharon O Neil (Akron) and seconded by Cherie Gentry (Monroe). The Executive Committee voted on the above two items, which passed with no dissent. Proposed Lt. Governors: Chuck Davis moved for the approval of Lt. Governor Jerry Stahley for the term, for Zone 12, to replace Dan Drago, who resigned. This motion was seconded by Sue Armstrong and passed with no dissent. Zone Reports by Lt. Governors: Zone 3-Richard Henson: Provided his Zone report dated 2/9/18. All 6 clubs have been contacted this quarter. A Zone meeting was held 10/25/17. Zone 4-Sharon O Neil: Provided her Zone report, and reviewed the Zones various activities. The next Zone meeting will be held on 4/21/18. Zone 5-Rob McAndrew: Provided his Zone Report dated 2/9/18. activities. Rob went over their

15 Zone 7-Chuck Davis discussed his various clubs and their activities. Zone 8-Harry Tolhurst & Zone 9-Ray Able: Harry and Ray went over their club s various activities and submitted Zone Meeting Reports and Club visitation reports. Zone 10-Steve & Jan Hamman: They submitted a Zone Report dated 2/9/18, and went over their Clubs indicating that all the Club s are doing well. Zone 11-No report. The annual DAYTON DRAGONS night will be May 18, Zone 12- No report Zone 13-Mike McGrew: A Zone meeting was held on 1/31/18. The Falcon Club (BGSU) is up and running as is the Club within a Club at Dor-Wood. The activities of the various clubs was reviewed. Zone 14-Myron Rheaume provided a Zone report with Zone membership at plus 10. Zone 15-Cherie Gentry: The next Zone meeting will be on 3/13/18. The Eaton club is not meeting anymore. District Chair Reports: No reports Governor Kendo reviewed the District. The District finished the 1st Quarter as The #1 Hard Charger. From the 2018 Presidents Mid-Year meeting in St. Louis: all clubs President s will be called by either the Governor or OI; there is a new Cluster Development Initiative that when there are 3 new clubs or more, OI will send trainers/staff to help build the 3 new clubs; OI wants to build clubs in Cincinnati (3 in Oh/KY) and need people to help with this. Fun and Fellowship: Sgt-at-Arms Bryan Lewis levied fines (which go to OI Foundation). Governor-Elect Sue Armstrong Governor Tom Kendo There are 193 new Optimists in the District so far this year, for a net gain of 103. Three new clubs have been built and much more is in the works. Builders of Excellence Awards go to: Jack Akerman, Paul Atkinson, Jennifer Kendo, Sue Armstrong, Jack Anderson and Greg Fey. Membership Awards: Governor Tom Kendo Governor Tom handed out single (over 30), 5 (3), 10 (3), 15 (1) and 20 (3) New Members Pins. Essay, Oratorical & CCDHH Contests: Sharon O Neil Sharon reviewed details for all 3 contests. 17 District Scholarship: Sharon O Neil Sharon reviewed the District Scholarships, their needs and purpose and accepted donations from Akron Breakfast, Wapakoneta Noon and Kettering Dor-Wood. Scrapbook Contest: Sharon O Neil Sharon reviewed this contests and handed out information on this to those that had an intrest. CPA: Sharon O Neil Sharon reviewed this and handed out instructions to those interested. PGI & PDP: Myron Rheaume Myron handed out awards to those earning them to include Level 10 to Sue Armstrong. ATTENDANCE: The following District Board Members were present: Governor Tom Kendo, Governor-Elect Sue Armstrong, Immediate Past Governor Cherie Gentry (she is also Lt. Governor of Zone 15), Past Governor Bryan McCormick, Secretary Jim Elder, Treasurer Jeff Dundon and Lt. Governors Richard Henson, Rob McAndrew, Chuck Davis, Harry Tolhurst, William Ray Able, Steve & Jan Hamman, Judy Martinson, Mike McGrew and Myron Rheaume, and Club Presidents or their representatives in attendance as reported by the official registration records. Approval of Minutes: 3. District Secretary Jim Elder presented and moved for approval the 1st Quarter Ohio District Board Minutes as posted on the District Website on 1/9/18, and an notification sent by the District Bulletin Editor on 1/11/18. 19 OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: Lt. Governor (Zone 12): At the Executive Committee Meeting held on 2/9/18, the Executive Committee recommended that Jerry Stahley, as appointed by Governor Tom Kendo, be approved as Lt. Governor for Zone 12, to replace Dan Drago, who resigned. A motion was made by Sue Armstrong to approve Jerry Stahley as Lt. Governor for Zone 12, and this was seconded by Harry Tolhurst. Motion passed with no dissent. Ohio District Policies & Procedures: At the Executive Committee Meeting held on 2/9/18, the Executive Committee reviewed the update recommendations to the Ohio District Policies & Procedures that were received by the District Secretary on 10/19/17, at least 90 days before the Conference, and was published by the District Bulletin Editor on 12/11/17. Included with this was a motion to change Article 1, Section 7, Item A, Section 3, to lower the minimum number of clubs in a Zone from 4 to 3. This motion was made by Sharon O Neil (Akron) and seconded by Cherie Gentry (Monroe). The Executive Committee recommended that the update recommendations and change to Article 1 be approved. A motion was made by Myron Rheaume to approve the recommendations of the Executive Committee and this was seconded by Mike McGrew. The motion passed with no dissent. The changes to the Ohio District Policies & Procedures are to be effective on 3/1/18. ADJOURNED: The District Board Meeting was adjourned at 10:56 a.m. CALL TO ORDER: The Second Business Session of the Ohio District Conference was reopened at 10:56 a.m. by Sgt-at-Arms Bryan Lewis. COMMITTEE REPORTS: A&A: Ellen Brautigam reviewed the A&A reports. OI FOUNDATION: District Foundation Representative Ray Able discussed various ways you can donate to include the Dime-a-Day program. Ray also pointed out that each club will have a Foundation Representative this year. Currently, there are 20 clubs with no Club Foundation Rep! Ray handed out various donation awards (Dime-A-Day, Benefactor Awards, etc).

20 The District Goal is $25,000. For the first quarter, the Ohio District is #8. Ray then accepted donations from the floor. HONOR CLUB: Sue Armstrong went over the Honor Club tracking form and how a club can earn this honor. JUNIOR GOLF: Jerry Stahley went over this year s events. FUN & FELLOWSHIP: Sgt-at-Arms Brian Lewis levied fines to deserving attendees (these will go to OI Foundation). Following this, and before breaking for lunch, Mike McGrew led the assembled masses in a rendition of Happy Birthday for Tom Kendo. The meeting broke for lunch (at 11:54 a.m.) during which there was a raffle with proceeds benefiting OIF. The meeting resumed at 1:01 p.m. JOI CONVENTION: Mary Ryon (JOI Chair) and JOI members Faith and Kelsie discussed the upcoming JOI Convention and passed out literature on this to those interested. The 2018 Ohio JOI District Convention will be March 9-10 at the Southminister Presbyterian Church. You can register online at FALCON OPTIMIST CLUB: Three members of our newest club, a college club at BGSU, discussed their club and how they are growing and being involved. The members present were: Jenna Mamula (President), Lauren Gregory (Secretary) and Zoey Leonard (Social Media Director). INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION: Immediate Past Governor Cherie Gentry stated this years convention would be the first ever in the Capital of a Country Ottawa. 21 AVENUE of FLAGS: Greg Griffin discussed this fund raiser his club, and some other clubs do. For any club that is interested in this, their President would be glad to provide information (Chris McAlpine, ). They erect flags at subscribers homes 5 times (Holidays) a year (leaving them there for 4-5 days each time). Subscribers pay $50/year. The flags are on 10 poles. The flags and poles are maintained by the club and delivered to the subscribers on the Holidays by 2 person teams. Greg points out that this fund raiser sells itself.
