1 California State Chapter General Membership Meeting Minutes Hyatt Grand Champion Indian Wells, California Monday January 21, 2008 Meeting Called to order at 9:05AM by Jeri Jorgenson, 2008 President Birthdays acknowledged: Mike Riley, Larry Miller, Cameron Riegl Pledge of Allegiance by Wendy Shearer, 2008 Delta Chapter President Inspiration by Diane Busch, 2008 Palm Springs/Desert Cities Chapter President Presentation of the President s gavel to Jeri Jorgenson, 2008 Women s Council of REALTOR State President by Bobbie Nelson, 2007 Women s Council of REALTOR State President. President Jeri Jorgenson announced that two of our active members, George Johnson and Mary Barto passed away this past year a moment of silence was held in their memory President Jeri Jorgenson introduced the head table: Sherri Souza, Treasurer; Barbara Safran, Secretary; and Mike Riley, President-Elect. District Vice Presidents were introduced: Mary Christenson, Carole Cuthbert, Paulette Kolm, Janice Levin, JoAnn Levine, Tammy Newland, Heather Ozur, Carol Shields, Marvelene Weyer and Terrance Yates Governors were introduced: Theresa Berenger, Diane Dee Lee, Barbara Lymberis, Cecily Tippery, Pam Thompson and Denise Smith Past state presidents in attendance were introduced: Bobbie Nelson, Jean Tietgen, Mary Jane Cambria, Betty Taisch; Emily Link, and Sharon Telles Member of the Year Betty Taisch was recognized and introduced. All other Member of the Year recipients were asked to stand and be recognized. All local chapter presidents were asked to stand and be acknowledged and introduce themselves and their chapters. There were 30 chapters represented. All first time attendees were asked to stand and be acknowledged and introduce themselves. There were 33 first time attendees. All CAR Directors and PMN designees were asked to stand and be acknowledged. President Jeri Jorgenson read the mission statement and gave her opening remarks

2 Two surveys were passed out for membership to fill out: The first one was to determine our members preference to have one day with out breakfast and one day with a continental breakfast or to increase registration fees to cover two continental breakfasts. The second survey will assist us in knowing who is active in CAR on committees. President Jeri acknowledged and thanked all our sponsors. Williams; Esther Marcelino Lee and Sherri Souza. Sherri Souza was also the recipient of the JoAnne McEachern Scholarship. Bobbie Nelson, our 2007 past president acknowledged and thanked all 2007 sponsors; 2007 committee chairs; District Vice Presidents, Governors and Line officers and our 2007 Regional Vice President Mary Jane Cambria. Betty Taisch, the 2006 recipient of the Member of the Year Award and the Chairperson of the Member of the Year Committee presented our 2007 Member of the Year Award to Mary Jane Cambria. Jeri Jorgenson, 2008 State President presented the first time Outstanding Service Award to Jamie Saltman, Chairperson; Meeting Planning. A Thank you gift was presented to Bobbie Nelson, 2007 State President by 2008 State President Jeri Jorgenson. The business meeting was reconvened at 1:55PM by President, Jeri Jorgenson. Barbara Lymberis introduced our guest speaker 2008 Women s Council of REALTOR National President Ann DeFries who spoke about the importance of and difference between By-Laws and Standing Rules. District Vice-Presidents and Governors were announced met with Chapters and their membership teams. Platinum Sponsor Presentation was given by the President of Key Point Financial Services Juli Anne Callis. Barbara Lymberis, Chairperson of Education and Programs introduced Pat Fredericks, speaking about Tools and Rules (Roberts Rules of Order, Protocol, and Parliamentary Procedures). Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs met with their committee members in break out sessions. President Jeri thanked Bay East Association of REALTORS for their Platinum and Installation sponsorships. President Jeri introduced Karen Kohne, President of the Southern Alameda Chapter as a Platinum Sponsor. President Jeri Jorgenson read the mission statement We are a network of successful REALTORS empowering women to exercise their potential as entrepreneurs and Industry Leaders. Governing Board Meeting called to order at 8:55AM by President Jeri Jorgenson. Judy Myers, 2008 Parliamentarian read the Rules for the Day. Roll Call of the governing board was read by State Secretary, Barbara Safran. Credentials Chairperson Marlene Moser reported that we had a quorum. 64 voting members were present. President Jeri Jorgenson announced that the minutes from our October meeting had been posted to the website and copies in writing were provided for the membership at this meeting. No corrections or additions were made. Minutes were approved as presented. The 2007 year end Financials were presented by Barbara Safran, 2007 Treasurer and were approved as presented. Jeri Jorgenson noted that according to our standing rules we did have a special end of year audit. Sherri Souza, 2008 Treasurer presented the 2008 Budget The 2008 budget was approved and accepted into record. Mike Riley, 2008 President Elect provided a Membership Report. California currently has over 3009 members; Florida has Our goal is to be number one in the country and improve our retention. President Jeri announced new appointees to the Budget & Finance Kathy Yamamoto and Garland Dunham. The governing board approved committee chairs and committees. The following committees had no action items. However all committee members were introduced: Education Awards Sharon Mancillas, Chair Education and Programs Barbara Lymberis, Chair Finance and Budget Nancy Faulkner, Chair Nominating Bobbie Nelson, Chair - 2 -

Committee members will be appointed. The following committees had Action Items: Bylaws: Linda Ellen Anderson, Chairperson Standing Rules to be amended to include the new category of Outstanding Service Award. Motion Passed: President Jeri Jorgenson will create a special task force to create criteria for the Outstanding Service Award. Strategic Planning: Jean Tietgen, Chairperson A motion was made to allocate funds not to exceed $1500 to provide assistance for local chapter president-elects to attend Leadership Academy. Decision for assistance and allocation of funds among applicants to be determined by line officers. Until budgeted; funds to come from reserves. Motion Passed: Line officers will develop criteria for how to allocate these funds. Education Awards: Sharon Mancillas, Chairperson A motion was made for the State Chapter to set up a scholarship fund for up to 5 local chapter line officers to attend state meetings, cost not to exceed $875 per scholarship for a total of $4375 annually. Applications will be reviewed by the Education Awards committee and recommendations sent to the State Line Officers for final approval. Motion Tabled: This Motion was Tabled until June and sent back to committee. New Member Mentoring: Barbara Riddle introduced committee members and presented the following motion: Monies for new members orientation packets to not exceed $ Motion Passed - 3 -

8 Governing Board meeting was adjourned at 9:50AM. The General Membership Meeting was reconvened at 9:50AM. President Jeri Jorgenson recognized all sponsors and asked our membership to support all of them with our business when possible. Breakout sessions Round Table workshops were held with Presidents, President-Elects, Secretaries, Treasurers and Vice Presidents of Memberships. Evaluation forms were passed out for speakers from yesterday and also for today. A brief clarification of DVP and Governor roles was presented by President Jeri Jorgenson. Presentation by Bobbie Nelson announcing upcoming National Mid Year Meeting (registration beginning Feb.12 th ) and both the Networking Summit in St. Charles, Missouri on Mega-Networking and the Influential Women Summit in Boston, Massachusetts including registration information. Barbara Lymberis introduced next speaker, Cecily Tippery, an expert with REO s and Short Sales and current State WCR Governor, provided a Power Point Presentation on Making Money with REO S. We were honored with the presence and presentation by Dick Gaylord, 2008 National Association of REALTORS president. Barbara Lymberis introduced Maxine Jennings, 2001 WCR National President, who gave a presentation about How to Introduce Speakers entitled Stand and Deliver. Chapter Basket Drawings were held and several local chapters made announcements. Kim Becica, Ways and Means Chairperson announced that we made close to $2470 on the drawing. Cecil Tippery answered questions relating to her talk about REO s. Jeri Jorgenson introduced Bill Brown 2008 California Association of REALTORS President who gave us a presentation about what is happening with CAR as well as what is happening in the marketplace.
