This is an exciting time to be a Freemason in Michigan. You ll experience Masonic pomp and ceremony, have opportunities to meet brothers from all 279 lodges in Michigan and other jurisdictions. You ll hear how our Masonic Home, Museum and Library, Live Better at Home program and Charitable Foundation are serving our communities and Brethren. You ll hear from me regarding activities and actions that took place this past year. New Grand Lodge future programs and activities as well as budgets will be presented for your approval. You ll have the opportunity to speak out on proposed changes to our Blue Book regulations. Candidates seeking to become a Grand Lodge Officer will reach out to you for your support. You ll elect all your Grand Lodge Officers for You and your lady will have the opportunity to enjoy many activities in the Dearborn area. 3 OFFICE OF THE GRAND SECRETARY ALMA, MICHIGAN MARCH 1, 2017 Dear Worshipful Master and Secretary, This booklet will serve as your information for the upcoming Grand Lodge Annual Communication to be held on May 22 and 23, It contains the information on hotel reservations, meal reservations, directions and points of interest in the Dearborn area. **Secretaries of the Lodge will NOT receive credential cards for the Lodge Delegate. All registration and confirmation will occur via the internet. Instructions are found throughout this booklet.** Please be advised: The Grand Lodge Annual Communication will be opened on Monday the 22nd at 1:30PM. The Grand Lodge Session will be called to refreshment later that afternoon and we will return to labor on Tuesday the 23rd at 9:00AM. If you plan to attend Grand Lodge, please bring this copy of the Advance Notices and Budget with you. Additional copies will not be available at registration. Please inform all members of your lodge who will attend the Annual Communication of the programs and meetings that are available on Monday, May 22, It is advisable to make your hotel reservation early. The deadline for hotel reservations is April 26, Also, please make your reservations for the Representative s Banquet and the various breakfasts and luncheons early. The deadline for these reservations is May 12, Instructions are found in this publication. Dark suit, collared shirt, and ties are required during the Grand Lodge Sessions. You will not be admitted without the appropriate attire. The Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge may be attended by any Master Mason in good standing. Then click on 2017 Annual Communication to open the registration page. Step 2: Step 3: Begin by clicking the green REGISTER button. The access code if you DIDN T receive a separate sheet of instructions with this booklet is MASON17. If you are a Distinguished Guest, BGP, DDI, RGL, Comm. Chair, GL Officer or Delegate, a special code was included with this booklet on a separate instruction sheet. If you have misplaced that code, please contact the Grand Lodge office. Select the quantity of tickets for each event, including choosing the Mason or visitor option. If you are registering as a Master Mason or visitor, be sure and click the first option. Select your meals and quantities, then click on Check Out. You will be taken to the personal information and payment page. Step 4: Provide your name, address and contact information, lodge name and number and your office if required. Also provide us with your guest (spouse) name, if applicable. 9 OFFICE OF THE GRAND SECRETARY ALMA, MICHIGAN, MARCH 1, 2017 Brethren: The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Michigan will convene for its 191st Annual Communication, commencing on Monday, May 22 at 1:30PM. The Session of the Grand Lodge will be held at The Henry Hotel, Autograph Collection, 300 Town Center Drive, Dearborn, Michigan. Visit our website at grandlodgemi.org and click on Event Registrations under the Grand Lodge tab to register and for further information. Please be sure and keep your dues card handy and in your possession. You will need it when you register and when you arrive at Grand Lodge Session. REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR LODGE DELEGATES - EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ! If you are the Worshipful Master, you received with this booklet a single sheet of paper with your registration code. This code is necessary when you register as the delegate for your lodge. The instructions for registration are included with the code to register. During the registration process, you will also be able to make your meal reservations. PLEASE NOTE: You need to go to the website and register as the delegate for your lodge. Your credentials will be on your name badge presented to you at the registration in the Presidential Prefunction area. **PLEASE NOTE** If you misplace your unique registration code or have any other issues with the registration process, please call the Grand Lodge office and we ll be happy to assist you. See phone numbers on page 8 and on the back cover of this booklet. REGISTRATION FOR BGPs, DDIs, RGLs AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS If you are a BGP, DDI, RGL or Committee Chair, you need to go to the Grand Lodge website and click on Event Registrations under the Grand Lodge tab, then click on the Annual Communication 2017 link. You received with this mailing a separate, single sheet of paper with your unique registration code on it. Enter that code to register, instructions are included with the code. You can purchase any meals you want during the registration process. You will receive a name badge at registration that will allow you to gain admittance and will be your proof of registration so that mileage and per diem can be calculated for you. VISITORS Visitors (visitor is defined as anyone NOT a delegate, distinguished guest, BGP, DDI, RGL or Committee Chair) attending Grand Lodge are requested to register through the process outlined above. However, your registration code is simply MASON17. When you have entered this code in the appropriate location, you will be able to register and purchase your meal tickets. When you arrive at Grand Lodge Session, present your ticket in the Presidential Prefunction area. You will be provided with your unique name badge as a visitor, allowed to enter the session and be seated in the designated area. If you do not register in advance in this manner, you will need to bring your dues card with you and register on site. The delay could be substantial so please utilize the sytem. The credential required to receive an official visitor s badge is your lodge dues card, showing dues paid to the date of visitation. 9
10 PROXIES - EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IF THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER WILL NOT BE THE DELEGATE FOR YOUR LODGE!!! Grand Lodge By-laws, 5.1.4, page 138 Section 1. Whenever the Master of the Lodge cannot attend the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge, the Senior or Junior Warden shall, according to rank, be his proxy and the legal representative of the Lodge. In anticipation of the possible failure or inability of any of these officers to attend, the Lodge shall, at any Regular Communication prior to the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge, elect of its members any Master Mason in good standing, as the representative of the Lodge, and he shall receive a certificate of his election, signed by the Worshipful Master, and under the Seal of the Lodge electing him. **WORSHIPFUL MASTERS PLEASE NOTE** If you are not attending the session, you must give the unique registration code sent with this booklet to the person that will be representing your Lodge! And he must register using that code! Grand Lodge By-laws, and (page 146 and pages ) MILEAGE AND PER DIEM : All of the above named committees, together with the Grand Master, Grand Treasurer, Grand Secretary, and Grand Lecturer, shall convene at the place of holding the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge, at least twenty-four hours previous to its opening, and shall be entitled to the same mileage and per diem as are allowed to members of Grand Lodge : The Grand Officers and members of Grand Lodge entitled to vote, shall receive thirty-five cents ($.35) per mile for each mile necessarily traveled, the route and distance to be determined by the Grand Secretary, in going to and returning from all Annual and Special Communications, and Thirty-five Dollars ($35.00) a day for each day of attendance thereat : PROVIDED, that no representative shall receive either mileage or per diem, when his Lodge is in arrears in payment of Per Capita dues, without the sanction of the Finance Committee, or Grand Lodge : Provided, further, that the properly accredited representative of Lodges in the Upper Peninsula, in actual attendance upon Grand Lodge Communications, shall be entitled to per diem allowance for two extra days : When a Past Grand Master or any member of a Standing Committee is Master of his lodge, the Senior Warden or Junior Warden may represent the lodge and draw mileage and per diem. 10

RULES OF ORDER Michigan Masonic law, 6.1 through 6.22 (pg ) NOTICE This Notice of the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge should be brought with you to the Annual Communication. The proposed amendments to Grand Lodge law should be considered carefully by the officers and members of each lodge, so that your representative to Grand Lodge will thoroughly understand their importance. It is imperative that each lodge is represented, as matters of great importance will be considered by Grand Lodge. 11
