1 MINUTES EL CENTRO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT - BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING TUESDAY, MAY 13, :00 P.M. BOARD ROOM CALLED TO ORDER: Meeting called to order by Trustee Minnix. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Trustees Fisher, McFaddin, Terrazas, Minnix and Dunnam, Jon LeDoux Superintendent, Renato Montano Associate Superintendent and Susan Fitzpatrick Assistant Superintendent. PUBLIC HEARING: CLOSED SESSION: OPEN SESSION: There were no public comments. The Board reconvened into closed session. Trustee McFaddin is not present. The Board reconvened into open session and announced the following action was taken: The Board, by unanimous vote, accepted the findings and recommendation of the Administrative Panel to expel Student # from the schools of the El Centro Elementary School District under certain terms and conditions. FLAG SALUTE: PRESENTATIONS: Led by Karla Sigmond Washington School Principal. Washington was the spotlight school for the month. Karla Sigmond - Principal gave a presentation. The winners of the 2014 Imperial County Student Film Competition from Sunflower School were presented. They are Anai Adkins, Danna Mora and Angela Meraz. A presentation on AVID was given. MINUTES: COMMUNICATIONS: Motion by Trustee Dunnam, seconded by Trustee Fisher, to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 8, 2014 and the Special Meetings of March 28, 2014 and April 14, 2014 as presented. Motion passed (Ayes 4; Noes 0; Absent 1 McFaddin). Trustee Dunnam attended the Reclassification Meeting. Trustee Terrazas met with Assemblyman Perez to discuss educational concerns. Trustee Fisher congratulated all the teachers for Day of the Teachers. He attended the Reclassification Meeting and the museum at De Anza School.

He also attended the Reclassification Meeting. He thanked everyone for all their hard work and Lincoln School for decorating the bulletin board. Mr. LeDoux will put an item on the June 24 th board meeting pertaining to the bids for the Facilities Master Plan. The new Assistant Superintendent Kristy Curry will begin working for the District next week. The Board was reminded about all of the End of the Year Events that are going to be held within the District. May 14 th is the official day that California recognizes as Day of the Teacher. Mr. LeDoux informed that Board that mugs were distributed to all employees on behalf of the Board recognizing the Day of the Teacher and Classified Employees Week. The Governor s revised budget came out. The governor is not proposing much more education at this time. Imperial Valley Press published a newspaper article recognizing Rene Wren Washington School teacher, as a caring and compassionate teacher and mother. Trustees Terrazas and McFaddin were recognized in the Valley Women magazine this month. Mr. Montano acknowledged a job well done for the new on-line assessments by the principals, parents and technology team. PUBLIC HEARING: Public comments were done as a matter of routine procedure. OUR CHOICE GRANT: A presentation on Our Choice Grant was presented. MATH PROGRAM: SUMMER 2014 PROJECTS: Motion by Trustee Fisher, seconded by Trustee Terrazas, to adopt the Houghton Mifflin Hartcourt - Go Math! (K-8) and Houghton Mifflin Hartcourt California Algebra 1. Also to declare all previous adoption materials obsolete. Motion passed (Ayes 4; Noes 0; Absent 1). A list of summer projects was presented to the Board.

3 Minutes El Centro Board of Trustees Regular Meeting May 13, 2014 Page 3 IVHSA IMPROVMENTS: Motion by Trustee Fisher, seconded by Trustee Dunnam, to award the bid for on-site improvements at the Imperial Valley Home School Academy site to Trademark Construction in the amount of $334,700. Motion passed (Ayes -4; Noes 0; Absent 1). Copies of the bids are on file in the office of the Asst. Superintendent, Business Services. RES. # INT. TO LEVY ASSMTS FOR : MOU ICOE PROGRAMS: Motion by Trustee Dunnam, seconded by Trustee Fisher, to adopt Resolution # Resolution of Intention to Levy Assessments for Fiscal Year , Preliminarily Approving Engineer s Report and Providing for Notice of Public Hearing. Motion passed (Ayes 4; Noes 0; Absent 1). A copy of the resolution is attached and forms part of the minutes. Motion by Trustee Fisher, seconded by Trustee Dunnam to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Imperial County Office of Education and the El Centro Elementary School District for transfer of funds for students enrolled in ICOE Programs. Motion passed (Ayes 4-; Noes 0; Absent -1). A copy of the MOU is located in the office of the Assistant Superintendent, Business Services BOARD Motion by Trustee Dunnam, seconded by Trustee Terrazas, to approved the MTG SCHEDULE: Schedule of Board Meetings and Agenda Deadlines. Motion passed (Ayes 4; Noes 0; Absent 1). A copy of the schedule is attached and forms part of the minutes. ELECTION YR CYCLES FOR BRD OF TRUST: CONSENT AGENDA: Matter was discussed. The Superintendent was directed to obtain additional information on costs and bring the item back to the Board. Motion by Trustee Dunnam, seconded by Trustee Fisher, to approve the consent agenda as presented. Motion unanimously passed. Certificated Approved the certificated employment of James Goff 4 th Grade Trad/SEI Long Employment: Term Sub Teacher at Washington School eff 4/4/14 hired on Class I, Step 1; and for Francisco Ramirez 7 th Grade General Science Trad/SEI Long Term Sub Teacher at Wilson Jr. High School eff 3/24/14 hired on Class I, Step 1. Certificated Var. Term Waiver: Approved the submission to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for a Variable Term Waiver request for a Single Subject General Science Credential to employ the following certificated employee: Francisco Ramirez 7 th Grade Life Science Long Term Sub Teacher at Wilson Jr. High School eff 5/14/14 hired on Class I, Step 1; temp status. 4 Certificated Leave of Absence: Classified Employment: Classified Leave Of Absence: Approved the certificated medical leave of absence for Xochtil Irene Bulong, at differential pay, with insurance benefits: 4/14/14 through 5/14/14, or until released from doctor s care or benefits are exhausted (based on leave balance as of 2/28/14). Approved the certificated industrial leave of absence for Dora Marquez, with pay, with insurance benefits: 4/1/14 through 5/1/14, or until released from doctor s care or benefits are exhausted (based on leave balance as of 3/14/14). Approved the classified employment for Mark Rodriquez Master Skilled Trades Worker eff 4/7/14 Class/Step/Hrly: 28-A 8 hrs - General Fund Item is to correct the date of hire for Mr. Rodriguez taken at the 4/08/14 regular board meeting from 3/31/14 to 04/7/14. Approved the classified industrial leave of absence for Bobby Espinoza, with pay, with insurance benefits: 4/1/14 through 5/9/14, or until released from doctor s care or until benefits are exhausted (based on leave balance as of 2/26/14). Approved a classified medical leave of absence for Virginia Graf, with pay, with insurance benefits: 4/14/14 through 5/1/14. 5/2/14 (3.31 hrs). Medical leave of absence; at 50% pay, with insurance benefits: 5/2/14 (4.69 hrs). 5/5/14 through 5/9/14, or until released from doctor s care or until benefits are exhausted (based on leave balance as of 3/31/14). Approved a classified family medical leave of absence for Patricia Zuno Hernandez, without pay, with insurance: 3/20/14 through 3/31/14. Family medical leave of absence without pay, without insurance: 4/1/14 through 5/2/14. Approved a correction to the 4/8/14 agenda for Fernando Marquez. Item should read: medical leave of absence; with pay, with insurance benefits: 3/31/14 through 4/14/14, or until released from doctor s care or until benefits are exhausted. In addition approved: medical leave of absence with pay, with insurance benefits: 4/15/14 through 5/6/14. 5/7/14 (2.48 hrs).
