1 Loughborough Students Union NUS Delegate Candidates Pack
2 The National Union of Students (NUS) is the national body which represents all students in the United Kingdom. Meeting throughout the year in different forms, the NUS works with Students Unions and other groups to ensure the student voice is represented at the highest level. Once a year the NUS holds a national conference with thousands of student representatives who come to debate and vote on plans and policies which the body have to adopt. Each Students Union is allocated a number of delegates, depending on the size of the University. Loughborough Students Union has been allocated 5 delegate positions which are to be elected in a cross campus ballot. Any student who studies at Loughborough may stand in the election and if elected must be available to represent the Union at the national conference over the first week of the final term, 19 th 21 st April 2016 in Brighton. In charge of the running of the election is Returning Officer, Max Crawford (VP: Union Affairs). He will be your first point of call for any issues or questions which the website can t answer. Feel free to contact him at vpuaffairs@lsu.co.uk : Max Crawford VP: Union Affairs Loughborough Students Union LE11 3TT
3 Job Role As an NUS delegate you will represent 23,000 Loughborough Students. It is your job to read through the different items proposed for discussion at the national conference, speak to students about these and gather opinion to inform your vote and then vote on those items. If enough students vote on these items they are passed as NUS policy and it is then the job of the NUS Executive Committee to ensure they fulfil the tasks that these policies have set them. There are 4 delegate positions available for Loughborough University and 3 for Loughborough College. Any student who studies at Loughborough University or Loughborough College may run to become a delegate. To find out more about the NUS and its national conference have a look here:
