1 Mount Wachusett Community College Student Government Association TO: FROM: All Candidates Constitution Committee DATE: July 29, 2017 SUBJECT: STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION NOMINATION PAPERS We, the Constitution Committee, thank you for showing interest in Mount Wachusett Community College s Student Government Association (SGA). The Student Government Association is a group of students who are elected by their peers to speak for the student body. Becoming involved in the SGA is a serious commitment that is not only educational, but rewarding as well! Every year brings new challenges for the SGA. We welcome your participation as we approach the challenges that lay ahead. Again, thank you for your interest in the MWCC SGA and we wish you the best of luck in the elections! PS Important Before beginning to obtain signatures on your nomination papers, it is highly recommended that you stop by the Student Life Office, room 151, to verify your status for membership and the position that you plan to campaign for and to receive additional information on the SGA. Please read all items in this packet completely before completing nomination forms.
2 To verify that you meet the requirements for the SGA position you are running to fill, complete this form immediately and turn it in to the student life office, Room 151 (located down by the bookstore). If the office is closed, you can slide it under the door. The figure on Line C is the number of credits which along with Requirements for SGA Positions (see item 7, next page) determine which SGA seats you are eligible to run for in this election. AFTER CHECKING the requirements for SGA positions (items 6 & 7 on next page), complete the following by checking the position you are running for: Sophomore (31 or more credit hours earned plus in progress at the time of the election) Freshman (0-30 credit hours earned plus in progress at the time of the election) At Large (no earned credit requirements specified) Note: In addition to the At-Large position above, there are At-large appointed positions which are not placed on the ballot for voting on by the student body.
3 MOUNT WACHUSETT COMMUNITY COLLEGE Student Government Association September Election September 27 & 28, 2017 TO ALL CANDIDATES: Please read all items in this packet completely before completing nomination forms. 1. The DEADLINE for submitting nomination papers to the Student Life Office, room 151, is by 5pm on Wed., September 20, Nomination papers to submit by the September 20 th date include the two pages of signatures. Papers must be returned in person. A digital photo of the candidates along with a biography will be posted on the election page on-line. More information on the biography and photo including their deadline are in this packet. 2. The Constitution Committee will verify and approve all candidates by 5 pm on Fri., September 22 nd. 3. The Constitution Committee shall prepare the ballot with candidates names appearing on the ballot in alphabetical order. Incumbent candidates will be listed as such. 4. Polling Place: Elections will take place on-line. Log on to iconnect ( Polling Time: Voting on-line OPENS at 8 am on Wed., September 27, 2017 Voting on-line CLOSES at 2 pm on Thurs., September 28, Any questions of procedure, etc., which require an official reply or ruling, should be directed to Gregory Clement, Associate Dean of Students, or his designee. 6. SGA POSITIONS UP FOR ELECTION 1 Sophomore (31 or more credit hours earned/in progress at the time of the election) 5 Freshman (0-30 credit hours earned/in progress at the time of the election) 3 At-Large (no earned credit requirements specified) 7. Requirements for SGA Positions: Members must maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA Members must be registered for a minimum of six credits at any MWCC campus Members are expected to attend classes 8. Responsibilities for SGA Members: Members must belong to one standing committee or ad hoc committee as appointed by the SGA president or committee chair and attend all SGA meetings Members shall be directly responsible to the needs of the student body and shall regularly consult with the students on all matters Members are expected to participate in all SGA sponsored events Members must be available to work one hour shifts at the SGA booth Members must be available to attend meetings between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Gardner campus during scheduled academic calendar days as long as the meetings do not conflict with class commitments. POSTERS/FLYERS 1. All posters must be stamped with the approval of the Dean of Student Services see Kathy in room No posters should be placed on glass, windows, painted or wood panels, etc. stanchions are available. 3. Posters should be displayed only on the ground floor and in the cafeteria area. 4. All posters should not exceed 11 x The candidates must remove all posters by 5 pm on Friday, September 29th.

5 Signature Print Complete Name Rules and Procedures for Nomination Papers: 1. Twenty-five valid signatures are required to place your name on the ballot. 2. Only registered MWCC students may sign your nomination papers. 3. All signatures must be legible. All students must sign their complete name. All signatures must be followed by the student s printed name. All signatures will be verified with the Records Office. 4. Getting 35 signatures is highly recommended in case any signatures you receive are invalid. 5. Nomination papers must be returned along with your biography by 5pm on Wednesday, September 20th, Return forms to the Student Life Office, Room 151.
