T Lemoff Engineering *Participated by Teleconference 1. Call to Order. Joseph Fehr, Chair, called the meeting to order at 8:03 AM on January 17 and welcomed the attendees to the meeting. 2. Introductions. Attendees introduced themselves and identified their affiliation. 3. Approval of Minutes. The minutes from September 30, 2015 were approved without revision. 4. Staff Updates. Laura Moreno provided an overview of the Fall 2018 revision cycle schedule and the NFPA process. (attached) Page 2 of 9

3 5. Review of Public Inputs: NFPA 85 Chapters 1-4. The Technical Committee reviewed Public Inputs and developed First Revisions and Committee Inputs as necessary. They asked that several actions be brought to the attention of the other NFPA 85 Technical Committees, which will be distributed with their meeting agendas. A task group on igniter classifications was formed to review section 4.7.7, Ignition Subsystem. Public Input 133 illustrated differing interpretations of the material and allowances in the section as a whole, so the task group will review this section and submit Public Comments. The task group members are Denise Beach (Chair), Gail Lance, and Celso Schmidt. Laura will also ask for volunteers from the Single Burner Boiler Technical Committee. Committee Input 148 was created as a placeholder for this effort. A task group on vent line sizing was reinstated from the last revision cycle to review section and the outstanding Research Foundation project request on this subject. The group will provide further guidance for the research project and seek to generate some interest in the project at a university. The task group members are Franklin Switzer (Chair), Kevin Carlisle, James Franks, and Randy Kleen. A task group on referenced material was formed to review the references in Chapter 2 and Annex K (Committee Inputs 101 and 152), to determine which references have been updated since the last edition was issued and if any substantial changes were made that will affect NFPA 85. The task group members are Franklin Switzer and Farshad Hendi. The Technical Committee requested a NFPA intern project comparing all of the subject chapters and create a spreadsheet of overlap. For example, overpressure protection is currently covered in sections , , and NFPA staff was asked to locate a similar spreadsheet created during the 2001 revision cycle. 6. New Business. The Technical Committee discussed the use of Autoignition Temperature throughout the code, and created a Committee Input to define the term based on language provided by Steven Meierotto from the Heat Recovery Steam Generator Technical Committee. The other committees should review the language and provide their comments for inclusion at the Second Draft stage. 7. Next Meeting. The Technical Committee agreed to hold the Second Draft meeting on December 5-6, The preferred locations are Memphis, Nashville, or somewhere in Florida. *The Second Draft Meeting has been changed to November 29-30, Adjournment. Antitrust Matters (cont d) NFPA s standards development activities are based on openness, honesty, fairness and balance. Participants must adhere to the Regulations Governing the Development of NFPA Standards and the Guide for the Conduct of Participants in the NFPA Standards Development Process. 9 Antitrust Matters (cont d) Manner is which standards development activity is conducted can be important. The Guide of Conduct requires standards development activity to be conducted with openness, honesty and in good faith. Participants are not entitled to speak on behalf of NFPA. Participants must take appropriate steps to ensure their statements whether written or oral and regardless of the setting, are portrayed as personal opinions, not the position of NFPA. Be sure to ask questions if you have them. Patents Disclosures of essential patent claims should be made by the patent holder. Patent disclosures should be made early in the process. Others may also notify NFPA if they believe that a proposed or existing NFPA standard includes an essential patent claim. NFPA has adopted and follows ANSI s Patent Policy. It is the obligation of each participant to read and understand NFPA s Patent Policy.
