1 Highlights October 2012 State Officer Meeting The October 2012 state officers meeting was conducted in Marion, Ill. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Springfield honors night. The following are highlights from that meeting: The State Deputy called the meeting of the Illinois State Council to order at 8:04 am. The opening Illinois 365 prayer was led by Associate State Chaplain Fr. Tuttle. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by State General Program Director Frank Schwartz. State Secretary Kinyon conducted the roll call of officers. The State Secretary noted that State Chaplain Most Reverend Bishop Siegel and Associate State Chaplain Diaz, were excused from the meeting. Father Tuttle informed the State Council that the Squires Bowling Tournament location has been decided and it will be held at King Pin Lanes in Springfield, Illinois on October 14 th, The Squires will be conducting a State Retreat to be held in Evansville, IL on November 10 th and 11 th Father Tuttle also informed the State Council that the Supreme Council is hosting a State Chaplains meeting in Dallas Texas on November 14-17, 2012 and he will be attending in Bishop Siegel s place. The Breese Mater Dei calendars are available for purchase. The cost is $25.00 per calendar. This is the annual fund raiser for Breese Mater Dei School. State Deputy Spada read the communications he has received since the last state officers meeting. They included thank you cards for various Masses the State Council had said for recently deceased brother Knights and a communication from the Supreme Council in regards to the approval of the Winter District Deputy meeting agenda. State Deputy Spada provided a review of the recruitment activities to date. The focus has been on growth and suspensions have been up and recruitment is about the same as last year. He asked the SMD to conduct a 5 year trend in recruitment and it appears that the recruitment numbers are about the same as years past. The State Deputy gave an update on the Hispanic Development of the Illinois Knights of Columbus. State Deputy Spada also gave congratulations to Diocesan Chairman Frank Stock on his actions towards the revival of the Hispanic Development in his Diocese. State Deputy Spada gave an update on the collaborative meetings effort with partnering the Field agents and diocesan leaders for recruitment activities. State Secretary Kinyon presented the September minutes for review and acceptance. State Advocate Stites motioned to accept those minutes. The motion was 2 nd by State Advocate Stites. The motion passed.

2 State Secretary Kinyon reviewed the action items from the September meeting. State Treasurer Doerfler presented the financial spreadsheet. He reported that the accounts are in good standing. State Treasurer Doerfler reported that there is a large amount of uncashed checks that need to be closed. He will be working with the office to clean those checks up. State Advocate Stites reported on Council and member issues since the last meeting. State Warden Bingham presented the weekend s events. Membership Director Bevignani presented his report. Year to date the Illinois membership has risen by 423 new members and has lost 250 members resulting in a net of 173 new members for the year. Director Bevignani emphasized the important of recruitment and to keep the focus. Jerry provided a report on new council development to date and was very happy to announce that Transfiguration Council # in Chicago was officially chartered in the month of September. He also noted the major degree held in Pittsfield which totaled 26 new members. This will be a council reactivation once the 30 men are recruited. Jerry also noted the monthly progress reports being utilized by the District Deputies. [Motion via on 10/18/12 by SW Bingham to purchase ¼ page recruitment ad in the Archdiocese of Chicago newspaper Catolico. The ad will cost $268 dollars and the monies are to be drawn from the membership budget. 2 nd by ST Doerfler. Motion passed via on 10/18/12]. General program Director Frank Schwartz presented the October programming report from the various chairpersons. Frank noted that Michael Risum who was sponsored by council #14373 (St. Patrick s of Rockford) has won 1 st place in the 9 th grade division of the Supreme Council s International Essay contest. District Deputy Director Dale Smith presented his report and reviewed the council monthly progress report. Dale also gave a status report on the Illinois SP-7. Charitable Activities Director Erik Luckett presented the General Assistance Fund report. There were no requests during the past month. The topic of the 2012 March for life in Washington DC was discussed and a motion by ST Doerfler to donate $1000 to each Illinois Diocese (6) in support of their attendance for the March for life in Washington DC was presented. The motion was 2 nd by SA Stites. Motion passed. A review of the Tornado damage that occurred in Harrisburg/Ridgeway was presented. The topic of immediate monetary relief was discussed and it was decided that the sitting State Deputy should be able to provide an amount of money immediately without board approval in the event of a disaster such as a Fire, Flood, Tornado etc. [Motion by SS Kinyon to provide the sitting State Deputy an amount up to $2500 for immediate relief to a community due to a major disaster, Tornado, Flood etc. The State

3 Deputy does not need to ask for a vote for this money. The money is to be drawn from the GAF fund. 2 nd by ST Doerfler. Motion passed] There was one GAF request presented. Motion by State Advocate Stites to deny that request as it did not meet the GAF fund requirements. 2 nd by IPSD Bednar and the motion to deny passed. State Deputy recessed Illinois State Council at 1:10 pm. President Spada opened the Illinois Knights of Columbus Charities Inc. at 1:11 pm. Secretary Kinyon presented the September minutes for review. Trustee Bednar motioned to approve the September Charities Inc. meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Trustee Bingham and the motion passed. Charitable Activities Director Luckett presented the Intellectual Disabilities, Newman, Prolife and Vocations reports. Highlights of those reports are as follows; Intellectual Disabilities Erik reported that his team has been contacting District Deputies for preliminary collection totals. Currently 9 councils have reported collecting a total of $36, dollars. Newman the Newman mailing has been mailed. Motion by Secretary Kinyon to set the Newman distribution amount at $210,000 dollars for the fraternal year. 2 nd by Treasurer Doerfler. Motion passed. Vocations Continuing to promote the Raffle as well as the RSVP program. A flyer and order form has been sent to the councils in regards to the Keep Christ in Christmas pins. Group Homes report was presented by Vice President Stites. Ted informed the board that an application has been received for a new zero interest home loan in the amount of $218,000 dollars from Community Link of Breese. Motion by Secretary Kinyon to approve the application for a zero interest home loan and to begin the proper loan procedures. 2 nd by Treasurer Doerfler. Motion passed. President Spada closed the Charities Inc meeting at 2:44 pm. State Deputy Spada resumed the Illinois State Council meeting at 2:45 pm. IPSD Bednar gave a status report of the Wheelchair Mission and informed the officers that Streator Council #790 has pledged $1000 towards the purchase of wheelchairs for Hines Hospital. J also informed the officers that Chris Lewis, CEO of the Wheelchair Mission will be attending the mid-year District Deputy meeting in December. IPSD Bednar also reminded all that communication is the key to success. Don t rely on alone.

4 Executive Secretary Shook gave a report on the mailings that have been sent from the office since the last meeting. Denny also reported on the ID monies that have been received at the office. Denny reported that over 1200 Newman responses along with 1000 returned mail because of bad addresses which will have to be readdressed and mailed again. Denny also gave a personnel report. Membership Programming Consultant and Past State Deputy Joseph Pietruszynski offered congratulations on the membership recruitment totals so far. Joe also reinforced the membership goal of One New Member, Per Council, Per Month. He also gave us a status report on the Culture of life program. Secretary Kinyon reviewed the action items for the Illinois State Council and Illinois Charities Inc. State Deputy Spada assigned Major Degree and VIP assignments for the State officers. Associate State Chaplain Fr. Tuttle led the closing prayer. State Deputy Spada closed the Illinois State Council at 3:45 pm. ILLINOIS STATE COUNCIL ACTION ITEMS [Open] District Deputy Director is to compile a list of District Deputies who have and have not held there one on one meeting with assigned Grand Knights. The District Deputies who have not held there one on one meetings yet are to provided the dates of when those will be held to the State Council. [Open] The District Deputy Director is to have a notice prepared for each District Deputy who has assigned councils not current with there per capita payment. This notice is to be included in the DD packet for the upcoming mid-year dd mtg to be held in Normal. [Open] The State Membership, Charitable Activities, General Program and District Deputy Directors are to select a week in each month thru out this fraternal year and provide one article in regards to their respective directorships. This weekly flyer will be released to the General Membership on Tuesday of each week. [Open] - The roundtable chairman is to make phone calls to the Diocesan leaders in regards to achieving more roundtable submissions. The roundtable chairman is to contact each of last year s councils who had roundtables then and not listed this year for an accurate count. [Open] The State Deputy is to secure a Disaster plan format from the State Deputy of Iowa or any other source that can provide a plan to implement. [Action Item] The Executive Secretary is to confirm that each Diocesan caucus will have the Supreme Delegate form for their meetings on Saturday of the State Convention.

5 ILLINOIS STATE COUNCIL CHARITIES INC. ACTION ITEMS [Open] The President is to create a committee for studying the Cardinal Glennon Hospital initiative at the Anderson clinic in Maryville, IL. Charitable Activities Director Luckett presented 3 ID recipient requests. 1 request was approved, one request was tabled for further information and 1 was denied due to not meeting the requirements.
