Senate Meeting Minutes February 2, 2016 Senate Meeting Minutes Date: February 2, 2016 Time: 7:00 pm (Pacific Time) Location Elluminate Senate Room Members Present President: April Anderson Vice-President: Dennis Moton DoLA: Kelsea Holbrook Secretary: Allyce Rusnak Treasurer: Victoria Buttress Senator: Kari Whitney Senator: Gabrielle Andino Senator: Mykle Reitzell Senator: Vacant Senator: Vacant Senator: Vacant Advisor: CeCe Smith The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Dennis Moton at 7:00 pm Reports Advisor s Report: Given by Advisor CeCe Smith: I just want to highlight that I have only one person s Travel for Rendezvous. If you have not completed your travel for Rendezvous that is due. Take some time out this week to get it submitted and into the system. If you can take some time to submit it I know everyone is basically in state with the exception for Victoria and Michael. I ve already booked you a room to share right at the event. So your room is square away, I just need everyone to submit their travel. One thing that I don t have that was brought up in a meeting was that the campus was wondering whether or not the government wanted to sponsor a raffle gift or two in incentivize the students to take the surveys at the end of the course. They want to increases students taking theses surveys, They are for the instructors. They are the course surveys. It needs to be under $50 and if they complete the survey that need to be able to submit their names. I am taking input on what a student would like. Don t just say a gift card. CeCe Smith: Yes Kari
Senate Meeting Minutes of February, page 2 of 4 Kari: Instead of submitting for one big prize, why don t we hand out smaller prizes to everyone like a bumper sticker? CeCe: I will take the suggestion back. I am seeing Victoria saying Amazon gift card. Movie Tickets. Starbucks card. Bookie, WSU connections. Visa Gift Card. I was looking to differencing because if you use a VISA gift card is just basically giving away money. I m sure everyone likes free money. Does anyone have any other suggestions and I will take those back. Anyone have any questions about travel or TEV? Mykle? Mykle: I thought we submitted are TEV s after we traveled? I don t remember doing them before? CeCe: That s because we could never get it to work on your computer. It should be fixed now. I will resend you the instructions and everyone will be submitting their own TEV s now. Gabrielle: When should we have sent you the TEV? I don t remember getting and about it. CeCe: It was in my advisor s report for the meeting that never happened. If you still read the packet you would have known. Even thought there was no meeting the packet still got sent out. That s why it got extended out. President s Report: Given by President April Anderson: I don t have much to say. I did attend an SGC meeting. I got lost completely in the meeting. I have been in contact with the Everett student government and they want to get us involved in a few events. I am still waiting on all the details. We have a few travel dates for the rest of the year, The rendazoo being one of them, the Seattle Graduation reception, the Pullman graduation reception. I look forward to all of those. DoLA s Report: Given by Director Kelsea Holbrook: This is my biggest report of the year. Coug day at the capitol. There were over a hundred of students in attendance. I got to meet with several offices which was really cool. So we could get global campus out there. There was one legislative issue that was on our priority list which was open educational resources. Which was recorded last Friday. I am waiting to hear on that public recording. There are 4 house bills that are being considered. We as the student body stated that we are in favor of open educational resources. There was one interesting fact that the cost of textbooks has increased 3x the rate of inflation since Our campus was talked about open source textbooks. So I followed up with our on campus that our campus has already made strives to lessen the burden of textbooks and media fees. Look more into the course media fees and see why we re buying for it since it doesn t seem to provide anything. Hopefully the open educational resource bill will pass and the campus will follow suite. I will be tracking what happens at the legislative front. My reports will be lighter now that Coug day is over. Treasurer s Report: Given by Treasurer Victoria Buttress:
I thought we were discussing the S&A allocation fees for next year but I do not see it on the agenda. It will be under new business. I updated my report and sent it out. I apologies that I do not have December s budget. I highlighted in red the areas where we over spent. I would recommend either cutting back or increasing those areas over the next year. There are also areas where we didn t spend much at all. Committee Reports Technology Committee Given by Senator Kari Whitney: The technology committee is slowly getting more interest on our 3 social media sites. Over the last two weeks twitter was up by 1% and Instagram was up by 6%. Something that the technology committee put together with the help of Victoria, we need help on how we want to promote things, particularly when it comes to events. Victoria has created a template that will help guide all of the social media postings. it to me and I will send it to the technology committee. We have a couple of issues with students not being able to access cougsync forms. CeCe is working on the trouble shooting so stay tuned. If students you about not getting access, give them to CeCe with their wsu and the form that they are trying to access. Student of the week is still going well, we have 12 applicants since I last reported. And we have 20 applicants from the fall promotion #youraswsu still open on cougsync. Senator Rusnak has some promotions that she will talk about in her report. Office Hours Report Given by Senator Kari Whitney: Senator Andino and I just got done with a WSU Connections library resources webinar series. They have one that is now up in the video vault taking about databases. Today the librarian talked about journals and navigating the journal database. The next one will be, just take a look at the WSU Connections. The librarian will be coming to Rendezvous which brings me to the next part of my report. I am working on Tacoma Rendezvous. This takes place for a full day in Tacoma, all of you will be there. There will be classes and wellness being online will be there with other resources, advising, global connections, the master s program, strategic communications, global cougar success, as well as, encouraging people to vote in the elections and we will have keynote speaker. You can get free tickets to the museum and sign u for 1 credit courses. Some additional resources will be putting on workshops. Like CeCe said make sure you have your TEV s in as this is still technically travel. And please remember to register as the event page. CeCe Smith: I just wanted to mention that Tacoma Rendezvous will be at the courtyard at the Marriot in Tacoma. The convention center made a huge mistake and double booked us. I had one date the convention center had another so we were able to pull out. And the Courtyard is smaller and cheaper. In order to accommodate we are going to have two lunches where the keynote speaker will speak twice.

CeCe Smith: This is an event that Everett campus has opened up to us to go to. I have sent promotional materials to Senator Whitney and there will be a website to register to do interviews and different workshops. The $500 will not be for the students but for the presenters, but we might not even need to help split the cost. It sounds like Everett is just going to open career week up to us.
President Anderson: The Everett event is going to be in March and it s going to be to promote elections. I don t have dates or anything as soon as I have information on it I will present it. There was a camping trip that was opening up. Would it be hard for global campus students to go on a camping trip or would be it more feasible to go to these meeting.
