HAVLICEK SCHOOL COMMONS ROOM 6401 W. 15 th STREET, BERWYN, ILLINOIS The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, School District 98, Berwyn, Illinois, was called to order at 6:30 p.m., December 18, 2014 by President Lancsak. Present - Members Swade, Paul-Emile, Cuevas, Valeriano and Lancsak Superintendent Dr. Ayala Assistant Superintendent Dr. Zaher Business Manager Regina Johnson Members: Mounce and Arenella absent until 6:32 p.m. Amaree Aguilar, Angel Barajas, Dominique Bernal, Emiliano Cruz, Fritz Paul-Emile III, and Emmanuel Santoyo led the assembled group in the Pledge of Allegiance. COMMUNICATIONS A. Jessica Hartless, Principal and Charlie DeLeonardis, Assistant Principal presented the School Improvement Plan for Havlicek Elementary School. BOARD COMMENTS A. Stephen Lancsak, Board President read the thank you card from Nadine Cloherty, NBEA President concerning the Holiday Party. CONSENT AGENDA A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Regina Johnson, Business Manager, provided the monthly status report of November 30, 2014 the Monthly Fund Status Report for District 98 as of November 30, 2014 is as follows: $34,811,445 in the Education Fund, ($49,900) in the Tort Fund, $2,818,988 in the O&M Fund and $166,408 in the Life Safety Fund. The District s combined operating fund balance (Education/Tort/O&M/Life Safety Funds) as of November 30, 2014, was $37,746,941 which represents a decrease of $707,550 from the previous month s balance. B. FOIA Request - Mr. Vincent Miles Received: Responded: C. NSBA Conference (National School Board Association) Board Member Valeriano will be attending this year s NSBA 2015 Conference. D. Triple I Conference Reports Members of the Board reported that the Triple I conference this year was very interesting and there was much to learn. They were also glad to see that there were different classes to choose from. E. Upcoming Events December 16, 2014 Havlicek Winter Band Concert at 6:30 December 17, 2014 Prairie Oak Winter Concert Intermediate at 9:30 and Primary at 1:30) Prairie Oak Choir and Drum Club at 6:00 December 18, 2014 Board of Education meeting at Havlicek starting at 6:30 December 22, January 2, 2015 Winter break January 5, 2015 School resumes January 8, 2015 Parent/Teacher Advisory Committee at district office starting at 5:00 January 12, 2015 ACCESS testing begins

MOTION TO ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION Member Paul-Emile moved and was seconded by Member Valeriano that the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, School District 98, adjourned to Executive session at 9:40 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2014 for the purpose of discussing the following item: The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1). 7 MOTION TO RECONVENE IN REGULAR SESSION Member Arenella moved and was seconded by Member Paul-Emile that the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, District 98 reconvenes from Executive Session at 11:02 p.m., December 18, Ayes - Mounce, Paule-Emile, Arenella, Cuevas Valeriano, Swade, and Lancsak Nays - None Carried MOTION TO EXTEND DR. AYALA S, SUPERINTENDENT CONTRACT FOR THREE YEARS Member Arenella moved and was seconded by Member Mounce to approve the extension of Dr. Ayala, Superintendent contract for three more years. Ayes - Mounce, Paule-Emile, Arenella, Swade, and Lancsak Nays Cuevas and Valeriano MOTION TO ADJOURN Member Arenella and was seconded by Member Mounce that the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, District 98, adjourn at 11:04 p.m., Thursday, December 18, Ayes - Mounce, Paul-Emile, Arenella, Cuevas, Valeriano, Swade, and Lancsak Nays - None Carried Carmen I.
