1 MINUTES OF WAPAKONETA CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR SESSION GARDENIA OFFICE Tuesday, June 20, :00 PM The meeting of the Board of Education of the Wapakoneta City School District was called to order by Vice-President Ron Mertz. ROLL CALL Upon the roll being called, the following were present: BOARD MEMBERS: Pat Gibson Joshua Little Ron Mertz Willie Sammetinger Member Brent Schwartz was excused. Also in attendance were Keith Horner, Superintendent; Angie Sparks, Treasurer; staff members; and community members. The pledge of allegiance was led by Vice-President Ron Mertz. RETIREE RECOGNITION Recognize the following retirees: JOAN BRAUN - 24 and 114 years - van/bus driver, sub cafeteria worker - Mr. Horner stated that Joan has a great personality and will tell you what is on her mind, which is really good and refreshing. She has done a great job all of these years. She will get in a relationship with these kids and will protect them. Mr. Horner wished her the best of luck and stated that she is welcome to come back as a sub. Joan stated that she has transported the special needs students during the 24 years she has been here and she loves all of them. SUSIE HUELSKAMP - 25 years - bus driver and cafeteria worker - Mr. Homer also stated that Susie drove bus for the preschool kids as well. She has been a great asset for the District. He wished her the best of luck in retirement and also invited her back to sub as well. SUZANNE TEMPLE - 31 years - art teacher - Mr. Homer stated that Suzanne has been great to work with. She always had a passion for kids, all kids, especially those with special needs. She has done a great job with the art show as well. Everyone will miss her. Mr. Homer wished her the best of luck in retirement as she moves on and visits with her kids. KRISTI SPENCER - 31 years - math teacher - Mr. Horner stated that Kristi taught math all 31 years while she was here. She has done a tremendous job. He asked her to think of the number Page 1of5

2 of kids she has impacted over the years since she has always been at the high school. She was really pleasant to work with. He stated that she will be missed. Mr. Horner wished her the best of luck as she moves on to take a job as a finance director for a local church after retirement. He wished her the best of luck. BARB KOHLRIESER - 14 years - paraeducator - Mr. Horner stated that Barb has made a heck of an impact on Wapak Elementary. She is always so pleasant and positive. She is a positive influence. Her demeanor is always pleasant and happy. Mark Selvaggio says that she always has a smile, loves working with children, and is always willing to try new ideas. Barb introduced coding and makerspace at the elementary. She brags about the success of her students all the time. Mr. Horner stated that she will be missed and is a true Redskin. Barb thanked everyone for their support over the years. Mr. Ron Mertz also thanked each retiree on behalf of the board and wished them the best of luck. ROUTINE BUSINESS Member Pat Gibson moved, Member Joshua Little seconded to approve the following items: Approve minutes from the meeting held May 23, Approve monthly financial reports. Approve FY '18 Temporary Appropriations. Approve Advance-Out Approve to advance $16, 118 from General Fund (Fund ) to the Building Fund (Fund ) Fund Approval Approve creation of HV AC Controls Lease Fund (Fund ) to account for the lease proceeds for the HV AC controls as well as the payments to the vendor. Financial Appropriations Modifications The following appropriation modifications are being requested: HV AC Controls Lease Fund ( ) - $709,000 Adult Education ( ) - $900 Athletics ( )- $10, Early Childhood Education Expansion Grant ( ) - ($24,000) OHSAA Tournament Fund ( )- $2, Page 2of5

3 Accept the following donations $700 from Bulldog Bogey Busters for computer stations at Cridersville Elementary School $100 from Matthew and Bridget Kentner for the General Fund Membership in OHSAA Renew membership in the OHSAA for The Board reserves the right to raise the student-athlete eligibility standards as the Board deems appropriate for the schools and students under its jurisdiction; and the schools agree to conduct their athletic programs in accordance with the Constitution, Bylaws, Regulations, Interpretations, and decisions of the OH SAA and to cooperate fully and timely with the Commissioner's Office of the OH SAA in all matters related to the interscholastic athletic programs of the schools. The schools shall be the primary enforcers of the OH SAA Constitution, Bylaws, and Sports Regulations and the interpretations and rulings rendered by the Commissioner's Office. The administrative heads of these schools understand that failure to discharge the duty of primary enforcement may result in fines, removal from tournaments, suspension from membership, and/or other such penalties Calendar Revision Revise the school calendar, moving the professional development date from March 2, 2018, to January 3, Lunch Prices Approve the following lunch prices for the school year: Student Breakfast (K-4/elem) $1.20 Student Breakfast (5-7)/MS) $1.45 Student Breakfast (8-12/HS) $1.55 Student Lunch (K-4/elem) $2.70 Student Lunch (5-7/MS) $2.80 Student Lunch (8-12/HS) $2.90 Reduced Price Breakfast FREE Reduced Price Lunch $.40 Adult Lunch $3.50 Athletic Training Coverage Contract Approve the Athletic Training Coverage Contract through St. Rita's Medical Center, effective July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018, at a cost of $5, (copy included in minutes) Property, Liability, and Automobile Insurance Accept a proposal from Stolly Insurance Group to provide property, liability, and automobile insurance for the period of July 1, 2017, to July 1, 2018, for a total premium amount of$101, Page 3of5

4 PERSONNEL MATTERS Member Willie Sammetinger moved, Member Pat Gibson seconded to approve the following items: Approve the following employee leaves JOAN HUWER - approximately 4 weeks beginning 6/2/17 DORINDA SCHMERGE - approximately 1 week beginning 7/12/17 Employ the following new teachers on a one-year contract for the school MICHAEL BOGAN - 8th and 9th Grade Science - Bachelor's Degree - Step 3 BENJAMIN SCHAMP - Intervention Specialist at High School - B Step 1. Salaries will be determined upon receipt of all documentation. Employment of Teacher Employ Douglas Davis on a one-year 75% contract for the school year, B-150, Step 0. Employment of Transportation Supervisor Employ David Tangeman as transportation supervisor beginning August 1, 2017, at Step 7 of the Other Administrator Salary Schedule, 254-day contract. Employment of Cafeteria Worker Employ Janet Schlenker as a cafeteria worker hours per day - Step 1 - $11.01 per hour - Beginning 8/16/17. Employ the following: JOE BENDER - Virtual School Tutor school year at 5.75 hours per day (including three professional development days) and summer of 2018 at hours per week - $20.00 per hour MARK SHORT- Math Tutor school year- $135 per day, not to exceed 50 days Employ the following substitute for the school year, pending satisfactory completion of criminal records checks: SHELLY EWRY - Paraeducator - Step 1 - $8.97 per hour Employ the following casual laborer: ALEXANDER GORN ALL - Casual Labor Computer Technician - Step 1 - $10.50 per hour Resignation from Supplemental Contract Accept the resignation of Dennis Borgert from his supplemental position of Boys Golf Coach ( 112) for the school year. 5 Amendment of Resolution #8-17 Amend Resolution #8-17 to increase Michael Brown's supplemental contract for Boys Golf Coach to 70%. Employ the following on a supplemental contract: MARSHALL GERLACH - Boys Golf (30%) - Step I ANNOUNCEMENTS The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 25, at 5:00 p.m. at the Board of Education Office, 1102 Gardenia Drive, Wapakoneta. EXECUTIVE SESSION Member Pat Gibson moved, Member Willie Sammetinger seconded to adjourn to Executive Session at 6:22 p.m. for the following purposes: appointment or employment of public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual, unless the public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual requests a public hearing; preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations with public employees; with no action to be taken. 6 FISCAL CERTIFICATE WAPAKONETA CITY SCHOOLS The Treasurer, Board President, and Superintendent of Wapakoneta City Schools certify that the monies required to meet the obligations entered into by the Board of Education have been lawfully appropriated by the Board of Education, and are either in the Treasury of the Board or are in the process of being collected to the credit of the appropriate fund, free from any previous encumbrances, and the Board has in effect for the current fiscal year and the succeeding fiscal year the authorization to levy taxes including the renewal of existing levies which, when combined with the estimated revenue from all other sources available to the Board on the date of this certificate, are sufficient to provide the operating revenues necessary to enable the Board to operate an adequate educational program for all the days set forth in its adopted school calendar for the current year and in the succeeding fiscal year equal to the number of days instruction has been held and is scheduled in the current year. This also includes multi-year contracts. This certificate is given in compliance with Sections , , , and of the Ohio Revised Code. This certificate applies to each action item approved by the Board of Education during this meeting.
