The super genius of all time. If you re a conservative Republican, you ve got to fight for your life. It s really an amazing thing. ~ President Donald Trump I believe many of us agree the main stream media, Hollywood elite, fanatical liberal left, and those who hate the US Constitution and ideals of America have lost touch with reality and are bent on the destruction of President Trump. I don t say this lightly, but there seems to be a level of insanity from those who spew hatred toward our President daily. The definition of insanity is a state of mind that prevents normal perception, behavior, or social interaction; seriously mentally ill. The results of this year s midterm elections will affect the future of President Trump s agenda and could shape the American political landscape for many years to come. There are many contests this November: all of the House of Representatives, 1/3 of the Senate, 36 state governorships, and many state legislative seats. If either house of Congress flips, the Republican legislative agenda will be dead! If either house of Congress flips, more aggressive investigations into the Trump Administration will ensure the impeachment of President Trump! If the Senate flips, President Trump will be enormously constrained on judges and other nominees! State elections could lead to new Democratic majorities and new liberal legislation! Lastly, a huge chunk of 2021 redistricting will be determined by this year s elections! It is imperative that Republicans win in November! Let s get busy and work to elect Republicans at all levels of government.

2 SEPTEMBER LUNCHEON SPEAKER Racine Cooper, Program Chair Our September meeting will be exactly 40 days before the general election on November 6, 2018, and we need to be ready for the final push. Drew McKissick, State Chairman of the GOP, will be our keynote speaker and will speak on being vigilant in electing Republicans and the importance of remaining the lead party. Drew will also address where our state GOP is heading and how Republicans are different from Democrats. He will be taking questions, so please have yours prepared. In addition, Walt Wilkins, candidate for Solicitor, and William Timmons, candidate for Congress, will be attending. Let s start the fall season with a great meeting and exceptional attendance. Janice McPhee, Campaign Committee Chair CAMPAIGN NOTES If you are interested in helping out the Republican Party and the Voter Registration Office, consider working as a poll worker. There will be 50 classes offered from September 19 th through October 27 th. The classes are three hours long and will run from 9-12 AM, 1-4 PM, and 6-9 PM. You will be paid $ for working at the polls November 6 th from 6 AM-8 PM. You can call the Voter Registration Office at (864) for more information. Additionally, you can go to the website at Working at the polls and the hours of the training class count toward campaign volunteer hours worked. 4 LEGISLATIVE NOTES Stacy Shea, Legislative Chair The legislative session ended on May 10 th, and except for the Special Session on June at which it approved the budget and a few other matters, the General Assembly has not met since then. The Legislature is expected to reconvene in the first week of October to vote on sustaining or overriding the Governor s 42 budget vetoes, and possibly to consider tax reconciliation. As of this writing, no specific date has been announced. When the Legislature does reconvene, among the budget vetoes to be considered are: Creation of a statewide workforce and education data warehouse Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood Earmarks for private entities such as the Charleston Library Society Beaux Arts Building, the SC Children s Theater, and the SC Conservation Bank Special allocations for Francis Marion University A pilot program using prisoners to test the effectiveness of cannabinoids in treating chronic illness and traumatic injury A provision which removes money for the Hazardous Waste Contingency Fund and allows individual legislators to use such funds for their own purposes Even though the session has ended, various committees, subcommittees, commissions and other legislative bodies continue to meet. These meetings are open to the public, and many are broadcast live. Meetings schedules are published on the Legislature s website ( The committees meeting during the next month include: Public Utilities Review Committee Screening of Public Service Commission Candidates SC Education Oversight Committee Joint Legislative Committee on Aging Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children South Carolina Procurement Review Panel Economic Development, Transportation and Natural Resources Subcommittee Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Subcommittee Healthcare and Regulatory Committee Education Reform Committee Education and Cultural Subcommittee House Opioid Abuse Prevention Study Committee Executive Subcommittee of the Legislative Oversight Committee Except for the special session to consider the Governor s budget vetoes, this legislative session is complete. The next biennial session ( ) will open on January 8, Bills can and will be pre-filed early in December. During this time, members of the General Assembly are meeting with various groups who are seeking support of legislation that will help their respective business efforts or personal interests. Some of these groups may include the Forestry Association, Realtors groups, and schools. They also meet at conferences with lawmakers from other states to compare notes and share ideas. 5 LEGISLATIVE NOTES The House met in August for its annual GOP Caucus Retreat to discuss legislative goals for the upcoming sessions. Goals consist of introducing several measures that passed the House but not the Senate last session to include tackling the utilities debacle, tax reform, state pension, and pro-life measures. The Legislature plans on meeting in early October to address vetoes by the Governor. After the general election, each body will meet in November/December to reorganize its committee to incorporate new members and start the legislative year. Since ending session, each body s oversight committees continue to meet to inquire about several state agencies operating functions including law enforcement, public services, and healthcare. The Senate GOP Caucus Retreat will be in November in Greenville.
