1 Report of the 2017 Pennsylvania State Squires Convention Hosted By Diocese of Harrisburg Circles The 60 th Annual Pennsylvania State Squires Convention was held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Center in Mechanicsburg, PA, April 21 st and April 23 rd. The Squire Circles of the Harrisburg Diocese hosted the event. Six Circles representing four of the five regions from across the State plus adult counselors and State dignitaries attended the 2017 Convention. The 2017 Squires Convention officially opened on Friday evening with financial reports being the main topic, as always we were led in prayer by the State Father Prior, pizza concluded the evening session. Saturday morning began with registration and drop off of essays and State Officer qualifications to registrar, Associate Squire Chairman, Dr. Walt Zimmerman. The Convention then opened with prayer then a welcome and introduction of guests and dignitaries by Associate State Chairman, Mr. Greg Mikolajczak. State Chief Squire Nick Bratina called the meeting to order and introduced State Youth and Squires Director Michael Yakubick for his comments. The meeting proceeded with the roll call of officers, circles and delegates. Circles in attendance included #5811 St. John Neumann/Good Shepherd, Lord s Valley, #5102 St. Joseph, Mechanicsburg, #5176 St. Rose of Lima, York, #5444 St. Mary s of the Assumption, Glenshaw, #2020 Trinity, Verona, and #5509 St. Basil, Kimberton. There were 15 active circles in Pennsylvania at the time of the convention. General business followed with reports on State Circle programs and circle activities, and a first reading of nominations and applications for State officer positions. All circles in attendance presented a brief report on their circle activities. SFP Fr. Ed Schleicher, and Seminarian DJ Dagen answered questions posed by Squires in attendance. Breakout sessions had the Counselors in discussion of how to grow the active Circles while understanding the constraint of no new Circles being initiated. The Squires and Counselors reconvened to process the nomination and election of the State Squire Officers. The results were as follows; Chief Squire Evan Cambest (#5444 Glenshaw), DCS Christopher Kircher (#5811 Lords Valley) Notary Kiwan Mikolajczak (#5102 Mechanicsburg), Bursar Kevin Bratina (#5102 Harrisburg). Alex Smith was appointed State Marshal Squire. Adam Smith and Mason Bilenski were appointed State Sentry Squires. Daniel Sarro and Vincent Emilio were appointed State Auditors. The group adjourned for the celebration of Holy Mass. After the celebration of Mass, all retired to the Convention Banquet.

2 After a well prepared dinner, the Squire State Officers (elect) were led to the podium by SK Richard Wisher in Regalia. Father Ed bestowed the Jewels of Office on the newly incoming Officers as the duties of office were read by Mr. Lawrence Barkowski, State Form and Awards Chairman to the Sentries, Adam Smith and Mason Belinski; Mr. Frank Rozzo, State Warden to the Marshal, Alex Smith; Mr. Michael Kish, State Advocate to the Bursar, Kevin Bratina; Mr. Paul Sharum, State Secretary to the Notary, Kiwan Mikolajczak; Mr. Stanley Glowaski, Immediate Past State Deputy to the Deputy Chief Squire Christopher Kircher; Mr. Charles Vagnarelli, State Deputy to the Chief Squire Evan Cambest. The entire ceremony was reviewed by the Vice Supreme Master Mr. Wayne Freet, our honored guest. The banquet ceremonies concluded with the following awards; Adam Smith (Cir. #2020) was named the recipient of the 2017 Charles J. Frank, Sr. Memorial Scholarship. Richard Bilenas (Cir. #5509) the winner of the 2017 State Circle Essay Contest and Daniel Loewenberg (Cir.# 5811) was named the 2017 Squire of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Circle. State Chief Squire Nick Bratina received an award for his service as the State Chief Squire of Pennsylvania. A plaque was unveiled signifying the State Chief Squires and their years of service to the State. The evening was concluded by the closing prayer from State Chaplain Reverend Lawrence Sherdel.
