2 Assembly Bill # 36 Sponsor: Miranda Newsome BE IT ENACTED by the ASUU Assembly that: WHEREAS, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter at the University of Utah is a student group registered on Orgsync; WHEREAS, ASCE has 30 active members (and approximately 15 semi-active members) and has been established at the university for over 15 years; WHEREAS, ASCE is a society dedicated to assisting students in creating professional connections with both fellow students and with professionals in their future field through aiding in networking, social and professional development, creativity, innovation, leadership, and unity; WHEREAS, ASCE is a group with local, regional, and national levels; WHEREAS, ASCE is hosting the 2017 ASCE Rocky Mountain Regional Student Conference from April 6-8, 2017 to hold ASCE s annual regional competitions; WHEREAS, the purpose of this activity is to allow schools in the region to compete in technical presentations, a steel bridge competition, a concrete canoe competition, and a mystery design; WHEREAS, this activity provides the host group with leadership and organizational opportunities; WHEREAS, ASCE plans to explore a number of fundraising avenues for this event; WHEREAS, the point of contact is Jenny Calderon asceconference.uofu@gmail.com; THEREFORE, be it enacted by the ASUU Assembly that $ be transferred from the Assembly Contingency Fund to the ASCE as line-itemed below: 1. 3 Assembly Bill #38 Sponsor: Keeton Hodgson BE IT ENACTED by the ASUU Assembly that: WHEREAS, there are 15 students that are a participating in the 2017 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Steel Bridge Team; WHEREAS, ASCE Steel Bridge Team has been active at the university, with varying levels of participation, for over 20 years; WHEREAS, ASCE Steel Bridge Team has previously placed within the top three of regional teams to continue on to the national steel bridge competition; WHEREAS, ASCE Steel Bridge Team participates in a regional/national competition of scaled steel bridge construction that promotes leadership and involvement for civil engineering students; WHEREAS, ASCE Steel Bridge Team will be attending the 2017 ASCE Rocky Mountain Regional Steel Bridge Competition that hosts other university teams from this region; WHEREAS, the regional Steel Bridge Competition will be held at the University of Utah on April 6-8, 2017; WHEREAS, this event is one of the major activities that ASCE promotes and gives the University of Utah significant attention from the competitions viewers as well as major organizations such as ASCE and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), whom judge the competition; WHEREAS, 15 members of ASCE Steel Bridge Team will help in the design and fabrication of a scaled bridge; WHEREAS, ASCE Steel Bridge Team advocates sustainability by recycling steel bridge pieces each year, learning sustainable engineering, and continuing successful ideas and pieces from previous teams; WHEREAS, ASCE Steel Bridge Team occasionally can attain sponsorship from the university s Civil Engineering Department and local civil engineering companies in the Salt Lake area; THEREFORE, be it enacted by the ASUU Assembly that $3, be transferred from the Assembly Contingency Fund to ASCE Steel Bridge Team as line-itemed below: Commented [PCA1]: Point of Contact? 1. 5 Assembly Bill #42 Sponsor: Madison Black BE IT ENACTED by the ASUU Assembly that: WHEREAS, Global Medical Brigades at the U of U provides students with unique opportunities to enhance their educational experiences through patient exposure, physician shadowing, travel, volunteer service, and leadership; WHEREAS, Global Medical Brigades at the U of U gives students the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate; WHEREAS, Global Medical Brigades recently became active on campus again with new leadership this past year and currently has 39 members; WHEREAS, Global Medical Brigades will be leading a medical mission to Panama May 8th- May 14 th with 16 University of Utah students, entitled the University of Utah Medical Brigade May 2016 Panama; WHEREAS, the medical mission to Panama will provide free care, health education, and supplies to the locals in Panama who currently have little or no health care; WHEREAS, the group is funding the majority of their program through personal funds as well as fundraising efforts at sporting events; WHEREAS, Global Medical Brigades is hosting a fundraising gala open to individuals from the community as well as students from the University of Utah to raise funds for the expedition and lessen the burden on individual students participating; WHEREAS, the gala will be hosted at Publik Coffee Roasters on March 31st, 2017 in conjunction with Business Brigades in an effort to reduce the cost for each group and increase the overall turnout; WHEREAS, the point of contact for Global Medical Brigades is Adam Martin at u @utah.edu; THEREFORE, be it enacted by the ASUU Assembly that $4, be transferred from the Assembly Contingency Fund to the Global Medical Brigades as line-itemed below: 1. 7 Joint Resolution #4 Assembly Sponsor: YoungJae Shin Senate Sponsor: Caleb Hoffman BE IT ENACTED by the ASUU Assembly and ASUU Senate that: WHEREAS, In the current Redbook there is no detailed compensation for the Vice Chair of Assembly and as it currently stands the Vice Chair of Assembly is compensated the same as a member of the rules committee; WHEREAS, the Vice Chair of Assembly is required to dedicate additional hours than what is required as a member of rules committee while fulfilling added job responsibilities for which the Vice Chair of Assembly should be compensated for; WHEREAS, the Vice Chair of Assembly has the responsibilities of identifying, interviewing and filling vacant seats in Assembly and also determining compensation amounts for every assembly member in Assembly (excluding members of Rules Committee); WHEREAS, the compensation of the Vice Chair of Assembly would be eligible to be compensated an additional $120 per semester in addition to the Rules Committee compensation; THEREFORE, be it enacted by the ASUU Assembly and ASUU Senate that the Bylaw of Redbook be updated and the specified changes be made to allow the ASUU Vice Chair of Assembly to be compensated fairly for the work that the job requires of them: Section 10 Compensation of ASUU Student Body Officers 1. All compensated individuals will abide by the Financial Policy and Procedures of ASUU. All compensation shall be disbursed in accordance with ASUU Bylaws and University Policy. 2. A person may not be compensated for more than one (1) ASUU position. 3. Student government compensation shall be authorized within two (2) weeks prior to the last day of classes for the semester for which compensation is given. 4. All ASUU student government compensation, as initially determined by the ASUU President and Chief of Staff, may be appealed to the ASUU Supreme Court. 5. Assembly Compensation A. The Chair of Assembly will be compensated at a minimum as an Assembly Committee Chair. Additionally, the Chair of Assembly may receive a bonus, at the discretion of the ASUU President, up to a total compensation not to exceed that of an Executive Cabinet Director. B. The Vice Chair of Assembly will be compensated at a minimum as an Assembly Committee Chair. Additionally, the Vice Chair of Assembly may receive a bonus, at the discretion of the Chair of the Assembly, for a maximum of six hundred seventy-five dollars ($675.00) per semester. C. Assembly Rules Committee members compensation will be set at twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per meeting attended, thirty dollars ($30.00) per Subcommittee attended, and ten dollars ($10.00) for College Student Council meetings attended, plus a bonus of up to one hundred dollars ($100.00) to be determined at the discretion of the Chair, for a maximum of five hundred-fifty dollars ($550.00) per person per semester. D. Assembly Delegates' compensation will be set at twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per meeting attended, and ten dollars ($10.00) for College Student Council meeting attended, plus a bonus of up to one hundred dollars ($100.00) to be determined at the discretion of the Vice Chair, for a maximum of four hundred twenty-five dollars ($425.00) per semester. E. The signature of the Chair of Assembly will be required for all Assembly members' compensation. 6. Student Senate Compensation A. The Student Senate Chair will be compensated at a minimum as a Senate executive committee member. Additionally, the Senate Chair may receive a bonus, at the discretion of the ASUU President, up to a total compensation not to exceed that of an Executive Cabinet Director. B. Student Senators will each be compensated a maximum of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per required meeting plus a bonus of one hundred dollars ($100.00) for attending all meetings, including College Student Council meetings, during the semester, up to a combined total of four hundred seventy-five dollars ($475) per Senator or up to a combined total of five hundred seventy-five dollars ($575) per Senate executive committee member, in accordance with the attendance rules of the Student Senate Bylaws. C. Compensation for attendance at College Student Council meetings will be dependent upon the Senate Secretary receiving the minutes of the these meetings. D. The signature of the ASUU Vice President of University Relations will be required for the Student Senate Chair compensation. E. The signature of the Student Senate Chair will be required for all Student Senator compensation. 7. Executive Branch Compensation A. The President's compensation will be nine hundred dollars ($900.00) per month to be disbursed semi-monthly. B. The ASUU Vice President of University Relations and ASUU Vice President of Student Relations compensation will be seven hundred-fifty dollars ($750.00) per month to be disbursed semi-monthly.
