B.A., Duke University (1991), Economics and Political Science (with Honors) ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE Founding Director, Institute for Quantitative Theory and Methods, 2011-present. The Institute for Quantitative Theory and Methods has ten faculty members, two staff, and an annual budget of approximately $608,250 (operating approximately $235,000). The Director works closely with the Dean of the College and other senior administrators on Institute priorities and direction. Specific tasks include hiring, outreach and fundraising, curriculum development and implementation, and other QTM academic programming. Major Accomplishments: Rapid and effective implementation. Since 2011 QTM has developed four majors and one minor ( ). Projected to be among three largest majors on campus in next two years. Planned conversion to a department Extensive interdisciplinary partnerships across the college and university. Substantial joint hiring with departments including Biology, Math and Computer Science, English ( ), Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Majors partner with 16 college departments spanning the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and business school. The Emory University Department of Political Science has 29 full time faculty members, an annual budget of $5.3 million (operating approximately $135,000), typically around 500 Political Science minors, majors and International Studies majors, and four full time staff. The Department Chair is responsible for all aspects of the department s operations, and works in close collaboration with the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, and

2 the Directors of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies. Major Accomplishments: revision of the undergraduate Political Science and International Studies majors, revision of the graduate methods sequence, revision of promotion standards and teaching performance evaluation, endowment of a graduate research excellence fund, creation of a graduate student recruitment fund, recruitment of nine faculty (including three senior members), retention of three faculty, and revision of the department committee structure to streamline internal department service. Founding Director, Center for the Study of Law, Politics and Economics, Emory University, The Emory Center for the Study of Law, Politics and Economics manages an annual speaker series, two conferences a year, and an undergraduate fellowship program. Major Accomplishments: Brought together a partnership of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Dean of the Law School to fund and support an interdisciplinary Center designed to create greater intellectual interchange between the two units of the university. Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Political Science, The Director of Graduate Studies is responsible for the academic progress of typically 40 Ph.D. students, working in collaboration with the Department Chair and Dean of the Laney Graduate School. Major Accomplishments: Oversaw an increased focus on preparing graduate students for jobs in R1 universities in the Political Science graduate program.
