18 Poverty Alleviation Fund

19 Background Nepal is one of the country having 31% of population below the absolute a poverty line. Since its experience of planned development in 1956, its efforts are continue towards poverty reduction under the different project and program. Poverty Alleviation Fund has established in 2004 under an ordinance nce and managed by a separate act in 2006, the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) is a national programme launched to improve the livelihood of the poor and excluded communities. Along with the support for capacity development and income generation initiatives, PAF is supporting small scale community infrastructure ure like rural water supply, small irrigations, health center, micro hydro, rural road, and bridge among others. These small scale infrastructures are providing the community different types of services and contributing to improve their livelihood and socio economic condition. Reducing poverty in the remote areas but maintaining social harmony as well.

20 Causes of Succession of Poverty Alleviation Funds: (1) PAF has adopted a demand-led approach, (2) PAF has adopted Community based approach to poverty alleviation ion (3) Targeted communities are given the full decision making authority. [Note : PAF's targeted beneficiaries include the very poor, women, Dalits and indigenous groups who are more than 80% of the beneficiaries.. ]

23 Coverage Areas (i) PAF has covered 25 districts out of 75 districts. (ii) PAF has included 15 more districts in the fiscal year 2007/08. (iii) It is planning to scale up its program to other districts as well. (iv) More than 5675 income generating projects (v) 1230 small infrastructure projects (vi) About 1,87,600 poor families are expected to benefit from these projects. [Note : World Bank is Providing grant assistance to the PAF.]
