15 Napoleon and the Liberation of Haiti Situation: Britain invaded Haiti in 1793 Napoleon indicated he wanted to end slavery He promised slaves assistance if they helped him expel the British from Haiti Haiti accepted the offer and forced the British to withdraw by 1798 Haiti conquered the whole island and declared it an independent country How do you think Napoleon is going to react to this?

17 Napoleon s Reaction He knew Haiti was too valuable to lose He sent 70 warships and 25,000 men to capture the Haitian leader, Toussaint Toussaint was tricked into returning to France and imprisoned in a dungeon where he died As soon as Napoleon had no use for allies in Haiti, he passed laws that supported slavery Haiti held its independence, expelled the French out 9)What did we infer about Napoleon from this?
