Prof. Dobrinka Peicheva, DSc, "Sociology" Peichevad@swu.bg Annotation: The subject of the course "DEMOCRACY AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES" are the problems of the different forms of democracy implementation in the modern communication and digital environment. Emphasis is placed on the great potential of new communication technologies to unleash direct democracy through which people can actually participate in the management of important issues for the development of each society and through which the two forms of democracy can be genuinely equal. The discipline builds upon the main conceptual categories and approaches in the study and interpretation of democratic processes, linking them to the potential of new communication technologies. It presents new dimensions to the pros and cons of every democratic form and to their current challenges associated with governance processes at all levels. The lecture course aims to develop and build on the basic constitutional and theoreticalempirical knowledge, attitudes and skills for analysis and argumentation of different forms of democracy. A special emphasis will be placed on building an independent and critical analytical attitude of students towards democratic processes. To justify theoretically and construct practically programs with preventive and advisory corrective direction for counteraction of the deviance, social pedagogical adaptation and integration of students with problematic behavior. It also analyzes the links between the ideals of justice, the realities of injustice, and the practical political solutions that help overcome the differences between them, placing questions about the importance and causes of injustice and movements for social change at the heart of the curriculum. The Master's course uses extensive literature in the fields of political sociology, social movements, and political philosophy to build a sociological foundation of knowledge and skills in the field of social values and social change. In a world in crisis, a world facing huge socio-political and environmental challenges, the Social Justice discipline provides a variety of critical views on these challenges and the opportunities to overcome unfair and unsustainable ways of life, thus providing an academic foundation for Understanding our problems and exploring alternative perspectives for human civilization. The foundation of the discipline in the department of philosophical and political science ensures that students receive training in research methods, quantitative and qualitative, that provide the practical and theoretical skills students can apply to careers that make a difference in the world. The program does not seek to promote a singular approach to social justice issues but rather to encourage creative and practical thinking from multiple perspectives, with the goal of enhancing students' level of informed citizenship. Abstract: The educational discipline is intended to introduce the students with a basical research directions in regard to the relationships between education and culture, as with the outlined leading theoretical positions. Other basical intention is to stimulate interest and to form beginning sophistication to rationalization of life facts or theoretical phenomena of mutual influence between education and culture, education and civicism, which provoke activity, somehow in a creative attitude, both in and out a civilian sense of the word, position and effective. Course content: The educational discipline Educational system and civic education goals and themes and outline the scope of the curriculum for the curriculum on the subject for civic education and the nature of the education system, in the culture and in social development. The primary goal is to solve the problem of education on the basis of socio-cultural practice, which is predetermined by the establishment of the culture itself the focus on building and forming the image of human. With itself interdisciplinary character the civic education have emphatically on practical direction and preparing for participation in public life, for personal and professional development, corresponding of the democratic principles and values in a contemporary world. Through lectures, discussions, presentations to and from students in the course of the training, different points of view are presented in formulating the essence of contemporary global problems - socio-demographic, technological, geopolitical, geoecological; Cultural, linguistic, social, communication and political impacts of globalization in the 21st century are explored. Special attention is given to global and regional approaches and mechanisms to address global issues. The program emphasizes the great cognitive, moral and educational potential of globalization as a modern science. The discipline presents basic conceptual categories and approaches in studying the phenomenon of globalization; leading writers are investigating its logic, effects and defects; Detailed attention is devoted to individual empirical manifestations of the phenomenon, including migration, integration, transnational corporations and global social movements; important conceptual influences of global research on key concepts of political theory, such as "state sovereignty", "national security", "ethnic conflicts", "resource allocation", etc. are affected.

Course content: The nature and specificity of the school as an educational factor; Complexintegrative approach to the upbringing of tolerance and democratic values; Integrative links and dependencies between education, democracy and tolerance; Basic concepts. Variations of tolerance; Modernity and upbringing. Actual dimensions of the "education-identity" interaction; Education as a protective factor for the prevention of discriminatory, undemocratic and xenophobic behavioral patterns; Education as a risk factor for the development of discriminatory and xenophobic behavioral patterns; Discriminatory practices in the Bulgarian school and ways to overcome them; Objectives, tasks and principles of education in democratization and tolerance; Content orientation of education in democratization and tolerance; Factors that destabilize educational relationships "teacherstudent", "student-student", "parent-child"; Basic Theoretical Models for Education in Democracy and Tolerance in School Context; School-to-family co-habitation in the process of educating pupils in democratic and tolerant ways. Emphasis is placed on the digitalization of communication and the role of the Internet as a means of civil society. The phenomena "civic journalism", "civil media" and "alternative media" are analyzed. Objectives and Expected Results: The purpose of the lecture course is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the role of traditional and new media in the process of achieving the main objectives of civil society.
