9 MILITARY MEASURES Nearly 142,000 troops have been deployed d in FATA and adjoining areas To check cross border movement, 821 check posts have been established compared to approx 120 maintained on Afghanistan side Frontier Corps, Frontier Constabulary and Police Force are being expanded Major institutional reforms and restructuring in intelligence and security services 9

10 MILITARY MEASURES Approx 4986 miscreants have been killed and 4200 apprehended, besides nabbing roughly 901 AI-Qaeda operatives 1751 Pakistani soldiers have embraced Shahadat while 4687 sustained injuries Military Operations 126 major operations including 14 joint operations Swat Operation 1630 miscreants killed and 731 apprehended 154 soldiers embraced Shahadat while 568 got injured 10 10

11 NON - MILITARY MEASURES Focused on winning hearts and minds Expanding economic opportunities including establishment of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) Use of indirect means for exerting pressure on miscreants 11 11

17 MAJOR LESSONS / WAY FORWARD Rs 130 Billion for FATA Sustainable Development Plan (spread over 9 yrs) in addition to US commitment of 750 Million $ (over 5 years) and support for establishment of ROZs Allocation of Rs 1 Billion for quick impact welfare and development projects has also been made These efforts need additional international assistance to create real impact 17 17

18 MAJOR LESSONS / WAY FORWARD Implementation of effective border control measures by the forces operating on both sides Major donor countries must fulfil their promises Measures to control ever increasing poppy production, and break the unholy nexus of Taliban and drug barons 18 18
