4 Equality & Diversity September 2014 The promotion of equality and celebration of diversity are at the heart of the college. Safeguarding Safeguarding arrangements are outstanding. Prevent The college s promotion of the Prevent agenda under its safeguarding arrangements is very well established. It works in an excellent partnership with police officers and the local Prevent officer who contribute highly effectively to college wide events and some specific sessions such as in public services. The tutorial programme very effectively promotes safeguarding as a set of positive choices to students, who feel safe in the college environment.

6 Prevent Duty July 2015 The Prevent Duty has due regard to the need to protect people from being drawn in to terrorism. (Anti-Terrorism and Security Act 2015: Schedule 3, Section 21): All staff undertake training in the Prevent Duty as identified by their leaders and managers including senior staff. All staff are aware of when and to whom it is appropriate to refer concerns about students. Fundamental British Values are exemplified in teaching practice.

17 Induction UNITED values are also known as British Values and form part of the Bradford College Prevent Strategy: The Prevent Strategy aims to protect students and build their resilience against all forms of discrimination, hate crime and extremism. As part of their learner journey (induction, curriculum, tutorials, enrichment), students are supported to develop their critical thinking skills. The college provides a safe space for students to debate topical issues and challenge key extremist narrative. Key Vocabulary: Word Meaning Resilience To be strong and keep going even when there are so many obstacles or problems on the way. Critical Thinking To look at all sides of the story before forming an opinion. Debate To discuss reasons for and against. Topical Recent news or events. Challenge To question something Extremist A person who believes in and supports religious or political ideas that are very far from what most people believe to be correct or reasonable.
