4 CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS 1. Study of the role played by international law and legal adjudication in the resolution of international disputes and the establishment of stable peaceful relations with a specific focus on territorial disputes. 2. Study of how political institutions in democratic and non-democratic systems influence the escalation and resolution of international disputes as well as the conduct of military operations during wartime. 3. Study of the consequences of war for civilian populations with a particular focus on the intentional killing of civilian populations and attacks on cultural heritage cites by combatants. 4. Study of the onset, duration, and termination of civil war guerrilla insurgencies and why some insurgent groups resort to terrorist attacks. 5. Study of the role played by reputations in shaping international politics in the domains of deterrence, conflict resolution, and military conflict. 6. Study of the conditions under which international development assistance has a stabilizing impact on political and military conflicts in fragile states in the developing world.
