2 NOTE TO STUDENT This spring break packet has been compiled to complement middle school social studies classroom instruction. It is intended to be used for review and practice of previously taught concepts. We strongly encourage you to work diligently to complete the activities in this packet. If you experience some difficulty with some questions in this packet, we encourage you to explore and attempt to find a solution to the best of your ability. The accurately completed Spring Break packet will be used as extra credit during the fourth quarter.

3 1.) Throughout time, there have been many political revolutions. These revolutions often brought great changes. The changes may or may not have solved the problems that caused the revolution. Choose ONE political revolution that you have studied and: Explain one main cause of the revolution Describe one main effect this political revolution had on society Evaluate whether the problems that caused the revolution were solved 2.) Explain how leaders in two different forms of government gain power. Identify which of these two forms of government you believe is better. Explain why you believe this form of government is better.

4 3.) European exploration brought many different cultures into contact with each other. Identify one country that sponsored explorers. Explain one motivating factor for that country to send out explorers and describe one effect that their exploration had on the lands they explored.
