2 Who is GIZ provide services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development in over 130 countries over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas (i.e economic development and employment, energy and the environment, peace and security, etc) 1/13
3 Who is GIZ main commissioning party is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), but also work closely with other donor agencies & the private sector implementing partner combining financial support & advisory services to local beneficiaries in the DRC: more than 30 years of bilateral cooperation between the German & Congolese governments 2/13
4 The BGSM project in DRC BGSM stands for Good Governance in the Mining Sector Main Objective: to promote regular & transparent control in the management of tax, non-tax payments, and revenue from the mining sector in the DRC Beneficiaries: The Congolese population 3/13
5 The BGSM project in DRC 3 areas of intervention: EITI Support to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in the DRC, through institutional advisory and capacity development to the National Technical Secretariat. TAXATION CSR Support to the Steering Committee on Public Finance Reforms (COREF) and tax authorities to improve information exchange and dialogue among the numerous involved agencies within the mining sector. Support to the harmonisation of Corporate Social Responsibility norms and standards in the mining sector for an improved contribution to sustainable development and promotion of dialogue between various stakeholders, i.e. the IDAK platform ( Sustainable Investment in Katanga ). 4/13

IDAK, promoting dialogue Objectives: Establish and maintain a continuous and constructive dialogue between all the stakeholders, aiming towards sustainable development in Katanga Through dialogue and consultation, foster mining companies social & environmental investments while harmonising them with local & provincial needs Principals: Voluntary Multiparty Constructive Courteous Consensus Seeking Minimum 3 times/year 8/13

IDAK, promoting dialogue Impacts 21 IDAK sessions, 18 of which were about socio-economicenvironmental issues in the mining sector From 40 participants in 2011 up to years later Around 300 recommendations towards the main parties involved A consensual agreement across the stakeholders that this dialogue is essential and, by increasing the understanding, has improved the business climate 9/13
