History of philosophical thought and influences on modern society Gives students the confidence to engage in a sophisticated analytical way with moral, political, aesthetic and religious questions
11 Political Science Theory and practice of politics and the description and analysis of political systems and political behaviour. For those wishing to pursue the scientific study of politics, the exercise of power, and the working of democratic political institutions How democracy works, How people vote, How parties compete, How European integration works, Values behind different political ideologies
12 Economics Economists explore how people and institutions behave and function when producing, exchanging and using goods and services. Economics develops the tools to understand issues such as how to limit/prevent unemployment, how to regulate financial markets, how to control the market power of large firms, how best to address climate change and how to help poorer countries grow and develop
13 Sociology Study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behaviour. Social movements: Fair Trade, feminism, inequality, migration and mobility, Shared practices of behaviour like dress codes or going to the pub for a drink (or two). If you are curious about social change as it affects your own life and that of others, then this is a discipline which you will enjoy.
