1 NAGALAND PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION PATTERN OF EXAM FOR SPECIAL RECRUITMENT OF EAC EXAMINATION, 2011 I. There shall be 3 (Three) stages of exams. 1. Preliminary examination 2. Mains examination 3. Viva-voce II. Stage - I (Preliminary Examination) (a) There will be one paper on General Studies only. (b) The Question Paper will be Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) with negative marking of half mark for every wrong answer. The number of questions will be 200 with 1 mark for each question. The question paper and the answer sheet shall be given separately. TOPICS i) General knowledge, and current events of International, National, Regional and Local importance 40 marks ii) General Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) 40 marks iii) Nagaland (Physical, Historical, Social and Economic features) 10 marks iv) General mental ability 20 marks v) Indian History & Polity 25 marks vi) Indian Economy & Commerce 25 marks vii) Indian and World Geography 20 marks viii) Health, environment issues, values, culture and social change 20 marks Total 200 marks III. Stage - II (Main Examination) a) Subjects : The subjects/topics for the main examination and their weightage shall be as follows : Paper Max. Marks Duration i) General English and Essays hrs. ii) General Studies hrs. iii) Optional Subject I (MCQ) hrs. iv) Optional Subject II (MCQ) hrs. Total hrs. b) General English and Essay i) The components in General English paper will be as follows : Component Marks Precise writing 2x20 = 40 Amplification 2x10 = 20 Construction of sentences 20 Grammar 20 Total 100
2 ii) The Essays will be written on 2 (two) topics out of 4 (four) choices given on common topics and each will carry 50 marks each. The candidates will be expected to keep closely to the subjects of the essays to arrange their idea in orderly fashion and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression. c) General Studies components : The subject with topic-wise coverage for descriptive/essay-type questions and answers on General Studies will be as follows : Subject area Marks i) North East India 35 ii) Indian History & Polity 35 iii) General Science & Technology 35 iv) Indian Economy & Commerce 35 v) Geography & Current Affairs 30 vi) Health, environmental issues, values, culture and social change 30 Total 200 d) Optional Subjects : The question papers in Optional Subjects shall be of Multiple Choice Questions with 200 questions in each paper and each question carrying 1 mark with negative marking of half mark for each wrong answer. Candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combination of subjects : (a) Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration. (b) Commerce & Accountancy and Management. (c) Anthropology and Sociology. (d) Mathematics and Statistics. (e) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science. (f) Management and Public Administration. (g) Of the Engineering subjects viz. Civil engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering - not more than one. (h) Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science. 2
