4 Fundaţia Timişoara, str. Piaţa Petru Rareş, nr. 5, cod , judeţul Timiş Tel/Fax: / Projects for 2014 In 2014 we want to continue what we have started in the last years: Ø Socializing program( in the apartments) Ø Support for young people to continue high school Ø Educational program( for students) Ø Single mothers Ø Visits to the Orphanage in Găvojdia Ø Easter and Christmas events together Ø Summer Camps A new project : Improving the conditions in which the children live We want to share with you a new need we would like to cover in time in Gavojdia Orphanage. Is about to improve the conditions in which the children live. The installation from bathrooms and kitchen are always broken. The furniture in the kitchens from 4 apartments is old (30 years old) and rotten. I would like to describe a little bit the situation : The Orphanage in Gavojdia is a place where 85 parent-abandoned-kids live. The house is divided into 10 apartments in which they are grouped on families according to the following criteria: age, intellectual level and kin (because there are several abandoned children from a family and they are allowed to stay together). Life in these apartments is meant to be an adaptation to what their life will be when becoming grown-ups. The problem is that things from the apartment are very much destroyed: running water pipes leak in the WC, washing machines are broken and rusted or inexistent, floors are rotten and smell unpleasantly and there are many other broken things. One of the reasons for which life in the orphanage is bad is the fact that everything is grey and cold, many things broken and nonfunctional. One day, after the July camp in Sasca, Mihai wanted to help the kids unpack and wash their clothes. Then he saw they didn t have where to wash them. Went to a different apartment and noticed the same thing. From that moment on our eyes were open and we saw the immense needs from their midst. We realized that one of the reasons for which they don t have the spirit of preservation of themselves and the things around them is also the fact that they are used to living in misery and broken, nonfunctional things. We started praying for guidance and financial 4
5 resources in this direction. God answered. In October, Marianne Sundsvalen, donated the money for a new washing machine which was installed in Apartment no. 3. The joy at the orphanage was great. But only one washing machine for 85 kids would have worn out very fast. In November, Karen Elisabeth brought some money from Anne Fjeldstad and her ladies group. The purpose was to be used where the need is greatest. We decided then to buy a second washing machine to install in Apartment no. 1. In that apartment are many little children which wet themselves and also have disabilities. The joy of the children was great for they did not have to carry their laundry (which is also not working all the time) to other apartments. Then we fixed other 4 washing machines that could have been fixed. As you can see we have already started to do it in small steps. The cost is quite high, so I do not want to put pressure on anyone. I just want to know your opinion about this investment. So, we already did: 1.In Apartment no.10 were moved to a group of girls (those considered most simple). In this apartment there was no furniture in the kitchen and the bathroom did not work at all. Michael has already started to buy equipment for the bathroom and ordered a new kitchen furniture. That was an emergency. 2.In December 2013 and January 2014 we replaced the floor in the apartment no.3, it was rotten and smelled unpleasantly. We also bought some extra food to improve the nutrition (the food is really bad;), as you can see it: Ø New wood floor for 3 rooms (in ap. no.3) 4,250 lei Ø New chairs for 3 apartments (50 pieces) 2,400 lei Ø Painting for walls 1,200 lei Ø Extra money for improving the nutrition 1,500 lei Total : 9,350 lei (2,077 euro) All that means buying something new is expensive ( 3,500 lei/ 800 Euro/ a kitchen furniture). So I used all the money I received and have been without purpose or with permission to do what I believe. (As I did with Marianne, Anne Fjeldstad, Anne Ljones, Per Otto Sitre for buying 2 washing machines and repairing the others 4 ). If you consider this wrong I will take in consideration what you will say. These investments widely opened the door to mission in this orphanage. Our young people can freely go there every week and talk to the kids about Jesus. Also, we have 4 workshops in which we help them to do their homework and raise their school performance. In June 2013 we were told that we can no longer visit the children for we are believers. Now they receive us differently and they told us: You really care about the lives of these children! The goals for 2014 are to work in the lives of these children on several levels: - To improve the conditions in which they live with furniture and functional installations; - To supplement their daily food (it is very poor) - Help with homework 5
6 - Develop relationships - Opening the perspective for their future - Evangelization Thus we build in their lives pillars of normal life and harmony in their souls. Our impact in the lives of these kids grew tremendously and brought a new breath of freshness and value to our ministry in the Orphanage of Gavojdia. Thank you so very much for everything you have done! We rejoice to be fellow workers with God in this great ministry for the abandoned kids in Romania. May the Lord God Almighty richly bless you! Much love, Lenu and Mihai 6
