2 SPORT & TRADE CONVENTION TUPS Sport Federation wishes to dedicate the 2017 South Africa's Freedom Day to interact and engage with foreign nationals from countries of Africa, Asia and Middle-East that are trading in the villages of Limpopo to EXPLORE support for grassroots sport development; SHARE retail trade skills and opportunities; and EXCHANGE cultural and sporting experiences. 3 01 In keeping with the visionary pay-off line of TUPS Sport AfricaWins!, we have designed a platform to EXPLORE, SHARE and EXCHANGE opportunities in grassroots sport development and retail trade among residents of Limpopo Province and foreign nationals from the countries of Africa, Asia and Middle-East. A platform to EMPOWER, PROMOTE and INSPIRE young Africans to play a meaningful role in building a better Africa through sport and trade. TUPS Sport is excited to announce the Africa_Asia_Middle- East Sport and Trade Convention (AAM Sport and Trade Convention). The new opportunity creation approach is unique to Africa yet based on using the existence of foreign nationals in the communities of Limpopo as its foundation. Sport and Trade Convention aims to: Deliver greater social impact Facilitate job creation Inspire positive action rural grassroots sport development, primarily for TUPS and CRICKET Foreign nationals to adopt a TUPS and CRICKET club in the villages where they do business Foreign nationals to transfer retail trade skills through W&RSETA funded initiatives to position local youth to thrive in the retail trade space Engage in dialogue; social cohesion interactions that are underpinned by FUN, SHARING and FRIENDSHIP; Fast-track a durable exchange of sport and trade experiences, and CREATION OF OPPORTUNITIES 1. The AAM Sport and Trade Convention approach was shaped by 3 factors identifed by TUPS Sport research: nurturing entrepreneurs Identifying and supporting young entrepreneurs to be placed with foreign nationals operating in their communities is vital to have immediate impact in the job creation space, and potentially increase confidence levels among locals to confidently compete and thrive in retail trade. tapping into the reservior of talent 2.Some of the foreign nationals trading in the villages of Limpopo possess the best talent in sporting codes such as Cricket. The interest to support the grassroots Cricket development has been expressed by the Pakistan nationals trading in Groblersdal, if this commitment is expanded into a formal social investment initiative led by foreign nationals trading in community it could relieve Department of Sport, Arts and Culture of the burden to invest in grassroots sport development (in order to concentrate on elite sport programmes). Both local and foreign communities stand to mutually benefit from an initiative to dedicate at least 5-hours per week to playing a recreational sport, exchanging expertise and skills, and open-up to learning new sporting codes such as TUPS and other indigenous games from their varied home countries. social investment through grassroots sport 3.Donation of a ball, sport equipment and apparel can lead to unearthing multiple talents across different sporting codes, covering every corner of the province where foreign national are trading. An opportunity exists for foreign nationals to contribute annually to a fund that will purchase these items and optimise their use. Local sport Non-profit organisations (NPOs) and clubs will be supported by this funding modality to advance their work. A monitoring and evaluation tool may be developed to ensure well deserving with high Return-on-Investment are supported.

4 02 Meaningful bonding between communities and foreign nationals trading in Limpopo Why SPORT AND TRADE as core themes of Freedom Day? The birth of South Africa s democratic order on 27 April 1994 opened the country s doors to international sport and trade. However, at grassroots level, rural South Africans are not positioned to seize opportunities presented by these two key developmental areas. Rural sport development programmes are not systematically organised or funded to produce championship material across all sporting codes. In terms of trade, despite high unemployment rate, ordinary South Africans are increasingly alienated from informal trade (second economy) into a huge clientele for social security grants. The status quo is sharply contrary to the interpretation for freedom. The values of Freedom Day should encompass grassroots mobilisation of communities to thrive and prosper in the areas of sport and trade. These are the most basic and accessible ammunitions in the fight against poverty, dependency syndrome and social strife that frustrate the narrative and the spirit of South Africa s freedom. It is for this reason that TUPS Sport Federation wishes to work with the Limpopo Provincial Government, particularly the Department of Sport Arts and Culture to dedicate the 2017 Freedom Day to interact and engage with foreign nationals from countries of Africa, Asia and Middle-East that are trading in the villages of Limpopo to EXPLORE support for grassroots sport development; SHARE retail trade skills and opportunities; and EXCHANGE cultural and sporting experiences. Sport and Trade Convention Our dream to use 2017 Freedom Day to rally traders from the countries of Africa, Asia and Middle-East (trading in the villages and townships of Limpopo) to meaningfully contribute to building championship culture in communities of Limpopo through committing to initiatives to explore, share and exchange expertise and resources for a multifaceted impact in the areas of sport and trade. 5 03 SOCIETY S PROBLEMS solved by the SPORT AND TRADE Convention Sport is one of the most impactful social development tools in society A new democratic South Africa used sport as a unifying tool (desegregation of black and white) South Africa's liberation struggle and anti-apartheid movement thrived on the solidarity of the sporting world Social causes often use sport to raise awareness and funding FIFA anti-racism campaigns are integrated in sport Sport events such as World Cup and international games are affecting the retail market and subsequently the economy Sport and Trade Convention is organised to build greater social cohesion anchored by free-will of South Africans and citizens of the countries of Africa, Asia and Middle-East trading in the villages of Limpopo. We elevate sport as one of the core programmes to nurture and defend nation-building process in the communities of Limpopo. The success holding of this Convention (on a high publicity day like the Freedom Day) in the rural landscape will translate into effective demonstration of our communities' capacity to combat racism racial discrimination xenophobia and related intolerance on all fronts. The sporting codes to be played on the day will include cricket, South Africa's indigenous games including TUPS. The convention will also be an important platform for frank and honest dialogue on fostering social cohesion, nation building, express true values of South Africa s national identity, and our vision for a better Africa and a better world. Need to entrench grassroots sport development in the neglected rural areas. Address the urgent need for tangible engagement and bridging the social disconnect among South Africans and foreign nationals in the development of communities. Provide the event medium to facilitate information dissemination and a seamless point-of-contact through which different communities of foreign national may be reached. Need to optmise awareness of government and civil society initiatives and efforts on social cohesion (underlined by the theme: a better Africa and a better world ) in a manner that is impactful and reach wider audiences with little investment. Need to motivate communities to be active participants; and active in all aspects of sport and trade in order to create opportunities. Need for communities to be active participants and pursue their own development through sport and trade, and encourage communities to drive their development from grassroots to highest levels of decision-making in sport through engaging foreign nationals in basic support of sport in the communities where they are trading.

6 04 getting rural South Africans to compete and compliment the retail trade value chain The cornerstone of Sport and Trade Convention is to induce free-will among role players to EXPLORE, SHARE and EXCHANGE skills, opportunities and experiences in the areas of sport and trade. The convention is organised with the view that rural South Africans endure most of the social pressure visited upon them by historic legacy of Apartheid spatial development pattens, the current challenging local economic environment, continued drought conditions and limited economic opportunities. Key among the outcomes of Sport and Trade Convention is to serve as a grand platform that will identify and propose young entrepreneurs to find their footing in retail trade, and social entrepreneurs to explore opportunities and partnership driven initiatives in grassroots sport development. Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) will be required to inject funding to set-up credible placing of young people in retail enterprises operated by citizens of Africa, Asia and Middle-East in their communities. This non-conventional learning will be augmented by a formal training instruction (boot camp) on compliance aspects. This will give a full effect to our exposure and participation of the masses in practical interface with hard-fought human and socio-economic rights. Retail trade skills will not only empower young people to become employers and creators of jobs, it will be instrumental in opening up more opportunities such as local manufacturing and supply to the existing enterprises, and ultimately enhance the standard of living, sense of dignity and a quality of life for all.
