AGENDA SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 11:30 AM 1:00 PM Page Thought Leadership Luncheon 12:00 1:00 All Member Luncheon 1:30 1:45 Chairman s Welcome Dave Samson General Manager, Public Affairs Chevron Corporation Chairman, Arthur W. Page Society 1:45 2:00 Introduction to the 2016 Annual Conference Rob Flaherty Senior Partner, Chairman & CEO Ketchum Chair, 33 rd Page Society Annual Conference 2:00 2:30 Keynote Simon Walker Director General Institute of Directors Is it possible that the corporate endorsement for remaining in the EU combined with public distrust of business produced a contrary reaction from the electorate? As a seasoned communicator with a career that includes senior roles at 10 Downing Street, Buckingham Palace, British Airways and Reuters, Simon Walker will share his unique perspective on current issues such as Brexit and the EU and why it is so essential for business to restore its reputation with the public.

2:30 3:10 Reputation, Trust and Purpose: Brexit and Beyond Moderator: Simon Walker Director General Institute of Directors Simon Kuper Sports Columnist Financial Times 3:10 3:15 Page Moment 3:15 3:45 Networking Break 3:45 4:45 Bridging Cultural Divides: A New Framework Erin Meyer Affiliate Professor, Organizational Behavior INSEAD Author, The Culture Map Fueled by terrorism, the need to accommodate unprecedented levels of displaced people, and rampant income inequality, we are unfortunately witnessing the rise of xenophobia, racism and ideological and nationalistic fervor. At the same time, the acceleration of globalization is making it ever more crucial that enterprises be attuned to cultural differences when communicating with international stakeholders, and the increasingly pronounced divisions between cultures is only making this endeavor more challenging. Professor Erin Meyer will share an eight-step framework from her recent book, The Culture Map: Breaking Through the Invisible Boundaries of Global Business, which will help you better understand differences between cultures, identify your own perceptions and preferences, and bridge cultural divides both between and within organizations. 4:45 5:30 A Post-Referendum EU: The Implications for Global Business Martin Wolf Associate Editor and Chief Economics Commentator Financial Times In the wake of Brexit, the UK and the EU are entering a period of prolonged uncertainty. The only inevitability is change, bringing both challenges and opportunities, and how Europe reacts will be essential to its continued prosperity. On the one hand, fears of recession, lower investment, stagnant manufacturing and the specter of businesses moving to within the single market loom over the UK. On the other hand, the EU is threatened with losing a key market, a financial center, a security partner and a link to the wider world. The EU must now reframe its relationship with the UK, negotiating trade terms carefully with what is still an essential ally. Seasoned Financial Times journalist Martin Wolf will share his perspective on the full implications of the vote for the global economy.

5:30 Adjourn 6:00 6:45 New Member Reception 6:45 7:45 All Member Reception 7:45 9:50 Arthur W. Page Society Honors Dinner 9:50 10:45 After Dinner Reception MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 7:00 8:00 AM Networking Breakfast 8:00 8:15 Welcome to Day 2 Rob Flaherty Senior Partner, Chairman & CEO Ketchum Chair, 33 rd Page Society Annual Conference 8:15 9:15 Purpose and Profits Paul Polman Chief Executive Officer Unilever Social purpose. Responsible capitalism. Sustainable growth. The ubiquity of these terms indicates that enterprises are elevating societal well-being to a strategic level and the best ones have it at their core. Paul Polman of Unilever, one of the world s most admired CEOs, is a global thought leader in the areas of sustainability and conscious capitalism. Paul will share how and why the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan was born, why he interviews entry-level job candidates, and why he stopped issuing earnings guidance and quarterly profit reports when he took the reins at Unilever. His insights into the nature of leadership and the role of business in addressing some of the world s greatest challenges will inspire you to think about the connections between values and actions in your own company and your own career. Paul will discuss short-term financial pressure and societal impact, and share his perspective on what it means to be a leader in a world of clashes and divisions. 9:15 9:20 Page Moment 9:20 9:50 Networking Break

9:50 11:20 Corporate Purpose and the CCO Moderator: Björn Edlund Principal Edlund Consulting Ltd. Vice President, EMEA Arthur W. Page Society Vilma Luoma-Aho Professor, Organizational Communications & PR, Department of Communication University of Jyväskylä Reidar Gjærum Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications Statoil ASA Charlene Wheeless Principal Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs Bechtel Corporation The Page Society has long-emphasized the centrality of corporate purpose to the work of the CCO. Arthur Page himself was highly prescient about the imperative to put purpose at the center of our work. In an age of transparency and mounting social challenges, corporate purpose is more critical than ever before. It simply must undergird the actions of corporations. In this highly interactive session, participants will provide input to a new Page Corporate Purpose Initiative and learn from a panel of their Page peers how a dedication to corporate purpose has benefited their organizations. 11:20 12:10 Building a Digital Engagement System Stacey Tank Vice President, Corporate Communications & External Affairs Home Depot In The New CCO, the Page Society described the emerging opportunity for CCOs to build data-driven systems for managing stakeholder engagement. A new Page project is now exploring how to develop such a Digital Engagement System, which would apply knowledge about stakeholders obtained through data to deliver customized content that expresses the enterprise s corporate character and motivates stakeholder action and support. In this session, Stacey Tank will provide an inside look into this project and offer real examples of how such a system can work to deepen engagement. 12:10 1:30 PM Networking Buffet Lunch

1:30 3:00 Page Society Annual Business Meeting Dave Samson General Manager, Public Affairs Chevron Corporation Chairman, Arthur W. Page Society Roger Bolton President Arthur W. Page Society Each year the Page Society holds its annual business meeting during the Annual Conference. This year s meeting will include not only some traditional elements such as the Nominating Committee s report, but also a new approach to content in the Chairman s and President s addresses. This year s meeting will also be different in that it marks the beginning of our Long Range Strategic Planning Process. We will dedicate over half of the meeting to interactive discussions about the long range future of the Page Society. You will have an opportunity to contribute to the direction and trajectory of that planning process through engaging conversation with your colleagues. 3:00 3:30 Networking Break 3:30 4:30 A Different Voice: The Role of Workers in Building a Sustainable Global Economy Philip Jennings General Secretary UNI Global Union The achievement of a sustainable, equitable global economy is in everyone's best interest including corporations. Economic, political and social stability depend upon the inclusion of a wide variety of stakeholder voices in addressing vital issues such as income inequality and failing living standards. UNI Global Union is an international trade union federation representing 20 million workers in 150 countries. Secretary General Philip Jennings has negotiated more than 50 global agreements with leading multinationals and negotiated the establishment of the Labour 20 (L20) (which is now an integral part of the G20). Philip will provoke your thinking, your conscience and your imagination regarding the role communicators can play in helping to realize greater economic and social equity around the globe. In a time when income inequality, globalization, nationalism and protectionism are so deeply embedded in geo-political and business affairs, his is a voice for consideration of the human impact of political and economic decision-making. When you enter this session, prepare to exit your comfort zone. Philip will compel you to reflect and consider competing points of view on a topic that profoundly affects both workers and organizations around the world.

4:30 4:50 Human Rights and Business: Insights and Experiences John Morrison Executive Director Institute for Human Rights and Business A perfect follow-on to our conversation about employee rights will be the remarks of John Morrison, who will address current efforts of leaders in business to bring about improvements in human rights. Following John's remarks, a panel of Page members will share case studies of how they have made human rights central to the work they have accomplished in their organizations and describe the impressive impact of these efforts. 4:50 5:20 TBA 6:00 6:30 Transportation to the Banqueting House for Dinner 6:30 9:30 Reception and Dinner 9:30 10:00 Transportation to The Landmark TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 7:15 8:15 AM Networking Breakfast Buffet 8:20 8:30 Welcome to Day 3 Darcy Keller Senior Vice President, Communications and Marketing Financial Times Group 8:30 9:30 Seeking Higher Ground The Global Refugee Crisis In January 2016, the World Economic Forum released its Global Risks Report citing the worst refugee crisis since World War II as the world s foremost economic threat. There are now over 60 million refugees worldwide. Last year alone, more than 42,000 people fled their homes every single day. Through this session we will learn how this crisis is putting organizations as well as individuals at risk, and how governments, NGOs and the private sector can cooperate to address the issues it creates. Every CCO needs to consider how their corporate character will be put to the test in stepping up to the challenges of a massive global humanitarian crisis. Attendees will leave this session with knowledge that will help them prepare for the unexpected and participate in solutions.

9:30 10:00 Networking Break 10:00 11:00 Corporate Narrative Re-imagined: What Films Can Teach Us About Corporate Storytelling Richard Curtis Director, Screenwriter and Producer Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones Diary, Notting Hill, Love Actually The role of the communicator largely depends on the ability to shape narrative. As a writer, producer and director of such films as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones s Diary, Love Actually, and Notting Hill, Richard has a great deal to say about the art of storytelling. In this session, he will discuss the differences in engaging people through fiction and/or fact, and he will help communicators view their approach to crafting narrative from a whole new perspective whether they are putting together a brand strategy, a communications campaign, or an executive speech. Richard is no stranger to crafting campaigns himself; he is one of the co-founders of Comic Relief and Red Nose Day. Richard is also a founder of Make Poverty History, among many other philanthropic and social endeavors. He helps promote these causes through powerful narratives and conference attendees learning from his experience will find this session both fun and pragmatic. Richard will show us how narrative can build bridges and move people to take meaningful action in the world. 11:00 11:10 Page Moment 11:10 12:10 PM Transparency, Trust and Collaboration: How U. S. Steel Made the Case for Fair Trade Mario Longhi President and Chief Executive Officer U. S. Steel Corporation Suzanne Folsom General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President U. S. Steel Corporation Kelley Gannon General Manager, Corporate Communications and Community Affairs U. S. Steel Corporation In 2014, the Communications, Government Relations, Trade, and Legal groups at U. S. Steel teamed up to address the issue of steel being illegally dumped into the U. S. market. Their efforts at working with a variety of stakeholders directly contributed to 1) an unprecedented alliance with the United Steelworkers Union, 2) a highly successful program to educate regulators and elected officials, 3) the winning of a landmark trade case, and 4) the strengthening of the company s position as an industry leader in responsible, fair trade

policies. In this dynamic and highly relevant session, U. S. Steel CEO Mario Longhi will be joined by his General Counsel and his CCO to share how their efforts to educate and involve internal and external stakeholders allowed the company to make unrivaled progress on the issue of fair trade. Details of how they managed to effectively engage elected officials, regulators, customers, suppliers, investors, employees and unions will illuminate how CCOs can play a vital role in helping organizations achieve positive outcomes through effective stakeholder collaboration. 12:10 1:30 Networking Buffet Luncheon
