His research focuses on political regimes, democratization, political parties, social democracy, and social justice. We are honored to have his as our Keynote Speaker, where he will lecture on the question "Is there a crisis of democracy?" Dr. Luicy Pedroza is a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Latin America Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin. Her past experience includes working at the Federal Electoral Institute in Mexico at the division for Civic Education and Citizen Participation and the Open Society Institute. Her specific areas of expertise include comparative politics, citizenship, migration, and democratization.

One of these challenges is the rise of the internet and of digital tools over the past few decades. They confront democracy with new possibilities and needs. How can democratic structures and institutions respond to these? Liquid Democracy e.v. (LD) is a not-for-profit organization that was founded to explore this question and to further provide approaches in order to answer it. Its aim is to transfer democracy into the digital age. In order to accomplish this step LD develops the Open Source Software Adhocracy which fosters eparticipation. To illustrate the ideas and mechanisms that were and are created in this context the workshop will present two of the organization s main projects: meinberlin (the central participation platform of Berlin) and EUth (a European wide toolbox to get young people involved in politics online). After an introduction to the projects, participants of the workshop will have the opportunity to try out the available tools and to finally discuss them. *Participants should bring their own laptop The workshop will present current trends in democracy innovation with the goal of strengthening the voice of citizens in political decision-

3 for Democracy Some are more equal? How democracy innovation can help bridge social and educational divides making. The students will analyse how these innovations can be enhanced, implemented and mainstreamed at various levels of policy making to contribute to bridging social and educational divides. It will draw upon the initiatives and ideas presented at the World Forum for Democracy, an annual event, organized by the Council of Europe, to debate key challenges for democracies worldwide. The session will also introduce the possibility for students to organize satellite events to at their universities in the framework of the World Forum for Democracy to further develop the ideas cultivated at the workshop. 11:30 13:00 14:30 16:00 Room :30 18:00 Latin America Theory/ Philosophy - Representation and Participation Democratization Human Rights & Gender Expert Lecture 1 Dr. Daniel Jacob Democracy beyond the state? On the institutional prerequisites of democratic procedures Expert Lecture 2 Dr. Solveig Richter Democracy in Post-Conflict Transitions Social movements (global) Dr. Daniel Jacob is a postdoctroal research associate at the Free University in Berlin. His research focuses on philosophy, international ethics, and contemporary democratic theory. Dr. Richter is a professor for International Conflict Management at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy in Erfurt, Germany. She is an expert in the field of external democracy promotion in post-conflict and transition societies, including the role of international organizations, and on assessing the effectiveness of tools used in civil crises and conflict management. Her region focus is on Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans. She has also worked as a journalist and political consultant.

He was president of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) from 2003 to 2006, and has held various other positions, including Founding Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Vice President of the International University Bremen ( ). His expertise and research interests include comparative politics and how a representative democracy can best function. Dr. Mariana Llanos is a Lead Research Fellow at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg in the Research Program of "Legitimacy and Efficiency of Political Systems." She conducts research mainly on comparative political institutions, having published a variety of articles and a book on presidential and judicial political structures, with a special emphasis on Latin America. She is also the Secretary General of the Latin American Association of Political Science.

5 16:30 18:00 Expert Session 2 Dr. Amr Hamzawy Researching Democracy and Human Rights in the Arab World - How Activism Shapes Our Understanding of Politics Transition (Afghanistan and Arab Spring) Social movements (Europe) Economy (In)equality Dr. Amr Hamzawy is a professor of political science at the American University in Cairo and a visiting scholar at Stanford University. He has held several prominent research positions including at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC, and was a member of the People s Assembly after being elected in the first Parliamentary elections in Egypt after the 2011 revolution. His research, teaching, and publications focus on democratization in Egypt and human rights and governance in the Arab world. 9:30 11:00 Roundtable Jacob Schrot, Young Transatlantic Initiative Maritta Strasser, Stop TTIP Dr. Evita Schmieg, SWP Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik April 8 Seldom does a trade agreement garner as much attention as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) has. A free trade deal between the US and Europe, the agreement would lower tariffs and regulatory barriers. Proponents say it would benefit consumers in both markets, lowering prices and creating more choices. Opponents, however, are concerned about the impact of TTIP, including lowering Europe's food and safety standards. At this roundtable, we will bring together speakers representing different viewpoints on the deal, including from the Young Transatlantic Initiative and Stop TTIP.
