2 WHO is PIANGO, WHAT do we do? Initiated in the late 1970s; formally set up in Port Vila in the late 1980s; 1st Council meeting in 1991 in Pagopago, American Samoa, to strengthen networking between Pacific NGOs & represent the authentic voices of Pacific Island NGOs; moved to Suva in 2004: A regional network of national umbrella NGOs and national focal points or coordinating bodies known as National Liaison Units (NLUs) in 21 Pacific Island countries and territories. A regional umbrella platform of national umbrella NGOs Providing a common voice of Pacific National NGOs at regional and international fora Taking collective action of Pacific Umbrella NGOs to respond to priority regional and global concerns 2

6 Pacific Regional Alliances Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) - In June 2007, granted consultative status to PIANGO but no accreditation yet. Policy being reviewed Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) PIANGO is a member and signatory of the PIDF Charter with an MOU in place Pacific Regional NGO Alliance PIANGO is a member of this alliance of 13 Pacific regional NGOs who are signatories to an MOU to collaborate on the Oceanus Agenda

7 Global Alliances International Forum of National Platforms (IFP) in July 2008, PIANGO formed IFP with 80 other CSOs, Paris based Secretariat. PIANGO is a Council member Beyond 2015/Action 4 Sustainable Development - a global CSO campaign that influenced the post 2015 development agenda and now monitoring Agenda PIANGO is the Pacific regional coordinator for the campaign EU Policy Forum Dialogue (PFD) a multi-stakeholder policy forum held in Brussels, commencing PIANGO represents the Pacific. CSO Partnership for development effectiveness (CPDE) a global CSO platform for development cooperation. PIANGO is the Pacific sub-regional CPDE Secretariat

10 Strategic Plan VISION Strong and effective civil society leadership exercised for a sustainable, just, compassionate and peaceful Pacific community MISSION PIANGO exists to enable the Pacific extended family of NGOs to effectively promote and advance the interests and wellbeing of Pacific peoples through networking, partnerships, capacity strengthening, policy advocacy, facilitation of a common voice on issues at national, regional and international forums fostering recognition of the critical role of CSOs to influence positive sustainable change for development effectiveness in the communities they serve.
