The controlled activity definition was abolished; 3. A minimum age of 16 was introduced. 4. More stringent ID checks required Regulated Activity Individuals are only allowed to undertake a DBS check with barred list information (see 3 in table below), if they work in a regulated activity (4 days or more in any 30 day period; or overnight). Reduced the amount of specified places; Certain office positions were abolished. Regulated Activity Children Unsupervised activities Teaching, training or instruction, care for or supervise children, provide advice/ guidance on wellbeing, drive a vehicle only for children Work for a limited range of establishments (specified places Opportunity for contact, for example schools, children s homes, childcare premises (but not work by supervised volunteers). Healthcare/ relevant personal care For example washing or dressing; or health care by or supervised by a professional, even if done once Registered child-minding; foster carers Moderating a public interactive electronic communication service Used wholly or mainly by children and carried out by the same person frequently. 2 Recap of Changes since December 2012: The CRB merged with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA). The new name is the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). All the documents have now been rebranded including the change of logo. May/ June 2013 Changes: Removal of certain specified old and minor offences from CRB will be removed (Q55) On line update service launched - 13 pa Applicant only DBS certificate recruitment implications Position applied for X61 amendment Who has the duty to refer? Regulated activity providers Employers or voluntary organisations who are responsible for the management or control of regulated activity Personnel suppliers Employment businesses, employment agencies or an educational institution such as medical schools When you need to refer: When the two main conditions below have been met: ONE: permanent removal from regulated activity TWO: referring party thinks that the person has either: Engaged in relevant conduct or Satisfied the harm test or Received a caution for, or been convicted or, a relevant offence For most cases the DBS only has the power to bar a person who is, has been or might in future engaged in regulated activity. 4 As an individual you should visit the website to register. You can do this as soon as you fill in the application form or you can wait until you get your disclosure. You have 2 weeks after receiving your disclosure to register.
5 Once you have registered you can check your details
6 As an employer you should visit the website to find out if your worker is registered. They will need to give you their Certificate number and their date of birth in order for you to check them.
