A current recommendation is that higher risk offenders should be prioritized for care; studies have found CJ risk to be a predictor of outcomes. And recent studies (see Rhodes, et al 2008) have found that high risk offenders are more likely to have infectious diseases. Below is a common validated risk tool in the criminal justice literature. 3 Criminal Justice (Legal) Status Offender legal (criminal justice) status can change frequently. It is important to capture the legal status to examine the degree of legal coercion, involvement in treatment, and stays in the community. The following questions are designed to measure status. 1. At the time of this interview, indicate your current legal status (es).
