13 NOTES ABOUT USING THS CALENDAR Be aware that, even though your order might refer to itself as a Standard Possession Order or Expanded Standard Possession Order, it might not be exactly the same as the default versions of either order provided for in the Family Code. It is common, for instance, for a possession order to be labeled as one or the other, but for the attorney drafting it to tinker with the details such that it might not correspond exactly with this calendar. Also, this calendar was drafted on the assumption that the Expanded Standard Possession Order included all possible expansion possession periods. An order might include only some of them and still be fairly called an Expanded Standard Possession Order. The only way to be 100% sure of what rights your possession order gives you is to read it from start to finish. Both the Standard Possession Order and the Expanded Standard Possession Order are influenced by the calendar of the school district in which the child primarily resides. As noted, this calendar is based on the Allen ISD calendar. Another school district s calendar may, or may not, be the same. This calendar also makes a couple of assumptions about the Allen ISD calendar that may or may not, end up being correct. For instance, on Thursday, April 17, 2013, the calendar states that the Standard Possession Order begins at 6:00 p.m. and the Expanded Standard Possession Order when school releases for the day. This is because the following day, Good Friday, is scheduled to be a holiday allowing the weekend periods of possession to start early. However, Allen ISD has designated Good Friday as a possible weather make-up day. If school is in session on Good Friday, then the result would be that the Standard Possession Order would only provide for 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, and the Expanded Standard Possession Order would end when school started on Good Friday. A similar issue might arise with Thursday, June 5, That day is scheduled to be the last day of school, but the next day is also slated as a potential weather make-up day. This calendar assumes that none of the weather make-up days on Allen ISD s calendar will actually be needed. Also, the calendar makes note of Mother s Day possession and Father s Day possession, but in any given case the mother or the father might be the possessory conservator, so it is uncertain how these holidays would impact the normal possession schedule, if at all. Additionally, there is often variance in when exactly the Mother s and Father s Day weekend possession periods start and end. This calendar assumes they start on the preceding Friday at 6:00, and end on the following Sunday (Mother s Day or Father s Day) at 6:00. Summers are another complication. The default summer possession period is 6:00 p.m. on July 1 through 6:00 p.m. on July 31, which the calendar reflects. But, either of the orders allow for this 30 day period to take place on one, or more, different sets of days. Another complication is that either of the possession orders will allow the primary parent to have a weekend inside the non-primary parent s extended summer possession. With no way to knowing when that weekend might be, it is not noted in the calendar. Obviously, there can be a lot of complicating factors involved in following either of these orders.
