Name of Jail Superintendent - Rakesh Kumar Capacity of Prison (184 male +4 females) No of inmates on the date of inspection (435 male +15 females) We visited the prison with Judicial Magistrate First Class - Amrinder kumar. This prison is highly overcrowded. Alert! Due to lack of space there is no hospital in the prison. Neither there is a permanent doctor posted in the prison, nor there is a doctor on deputation from the district hospital. The Civil Surgeon has, on the request of prison administration, prepared a list of doctors, posted in the district hospital, who come on a daily visit at 12:30 pm. Alert! Amrit Yadav Ward 6: Aged 100. Inmate for 25 days. Accused under Sec 307. Women's Wing 15 inmates, 3 fans all working. Toilet there for night use, no running water. o Snadhya Rani - Aged 65. Inmate for 9 months. Accused under the Immoral Trafficking Act. Her husband's home is in Bangladesh. She stays at her father's home. Her two sons are mentally ill. She was arrested at Simultala railway station. She claims that she was going to Brindaban. Her address: Bosakhali, Sardarpara, P.O. - Aasaru, P.S. - Bongaon. Needs to inform home that she is in Bihar prison.

Most of the inmates working in the kitchen don t have any idea of the daily remuneration they get for the work in the kitchen. Except 2 of them, all have been
9 working for more than 2-3 months and have not been paid any money for their kitchen work. Under Trail Prisoners were found working in the Kitchen and were not sure remuneration for the work in the kitchen. They had no record with them to keep track of the number of days they have been working in kitchen, thus calculating per day payment after a considerable amount of time will not be possible. (As per law, UTP s should not be working in Kitchen as it might lead to forced labour/ unlawful compulsory labour, a crime Under Section 374 IPC.) o Guddu Paswan - Inmate for 1 month.
