14 5. MSF MSF has been monitoring the refugee situation in Al Qaim since August Due to various reasons, the main one being visa constraints from October 2012 December 2012, an MSF team only moved to Al Qaim in January 2013 in order to support the Syrian refugees. Since this period until today MSF was able to manage the following objectives: Border post Clinic MSF began supporting the border clinic post since the end of January, with the presence of one female expatriate medical doctor. MSF was able to do 2 to 3 days consultations per week. Since February MSF presence has been increased with the arrival of the second MSF expatriate female doctor which lead to increased presence in the border clinic 5 days a week except for Mondays and Fridays. An average of 60 patients per day are seen and weekly epidemiological statistics are sent to Al Qaim PHC directorate. Mental Health Care As Mental Health care has been identified as a need of the refugee population and MSF has some expertise in this field, there has been a verbal agreement that MSF would also commence mental health services in Camp 1 & 2. Since the end of February, MSF have an expatriate psychologist in Al Qaim in order to establish the mental health activities within camp I and Camp II for the Syrian refugees. Among the Syrian population within camp I and camp II, it is hoped to identify 4 potential candidates who will be trained by MSF as counselors. An official MSF request letter was sent to the Iraqi MoH to allocate the dedicated space for the mental health activities within camp I and camp II. As soon as the space will be allocated by the MoH within the two camps, and following a two week training given on site by MSF, MSF will activate immediately the mental health activities. Obeidi Camp or Camp 3 MSF has built the medical facility in Camp III Al Obeidi. There are no occupants yet in Obeidi as the border remains closed so as of now MSF activities are restricted to the border clinic post and to mental health care provision in Camps 1 & ICRC Provided alqaim hospital with dressing kit. Provided hygiene parcels to 250 syrian refugees. Provided 20 wheel chairs for disabled Syrian refugees. Provided dressing & burn kit and basic medical equipment to border clinic.
