I have been with the SFPD for 35 years and have worked many different commands, but I like to call Richmond Station Home. 2 Officer of the month Michael Petuya Officer Petuya has been with the San Francisco Police Department for three years and patrols the Richmond District on the midnight shift as the traffic car. His focus while on patrol are traffic violations and DUI offenders. Officer Petuya grew up in Marin and graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science. He follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather as a third generation SFPD officer. In his free time, Officer Petuya enjoys traveling and working out. 2
3 Citizen of the month Eduardo guzman Eduardo has been a staple at the Cliff House for the last four years selling his paintings and talking to the many tourists that visit the sight each day. You can t miss the colorful paintings of different scenes from our vibrant city. Eduardo has been painting for 31 years, with 28 of those years living in San Francisco. The paintings are his livelihood and therapy. He encourages us all to work together to make a difference. 3

6 DEFINITION OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate a crime-related incident has been committed, or about to be committed. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is left unattended, a window/ door is open that is usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur. Examples of Suspicious Activity: An individual peering into vehicles, to try and locate any valuables left unattended. An individual trying door handles to vehicles, and/or residences to gain access to the vehicle and/or residence. An individual checking front doors of residences to locate any unattended packages, or individuals following delivery trucks to see where the truck is dropping off packages. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING DEFINITIONS OF CRIME Robbery Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear. Assault An assault is an unlawful attempt, coupled with the present ability, to commit a violent injury on another person. Battery- (Misdemeanor battery) is any willful and unlawful touching of another. (Felony battery) is the use of force or violence upon the person of another that causes serious bodily in jury. **Assault is when a person swings their arm and battery is when that arm makes contact with another person. ** Aggravated Assault Assault upon another person with a deadly weapon or instrument other than a firearm or by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. Burglary The intent upon entry into a property to commit grand theft, petty theft, or any felony. 6
7 DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY POLICING Community policing, or community-oriented policing, is a strategy of policing that focuses on police building ties and working closely with members of the communities. Homeless Outreach: Richmond Station Officer s coor dinate with city agencies to provide assistance and offer City services as needed. The Officers handle quality of life issues and find programs for willing individuals. Foot Patrol: Richmond Station has dedicated foot patrols on Clement St., Geary Blvd, Golden Gate Park as well as the Cliff House. Richmond Station Community Meetings: Community Meetings are held once a month for the public and residents of the Richmond District to attend. People can voice their comments or concerns about issues in the Richmond District. 7

9 SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT INCIDENTS IN THE RICHMOND DISTRICT THIS WEEK Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Battery, Theft, and Resisting Arrest (Arrest) 04/26/ Hours 7th Ave & Fulton The Suspect was in line to buy beer. The Victim refused to sell to the Suspect as he was obviously intoxicated and smelled heavily of alcohol. The Suspect yelled profanities and tried to exit the store without paying for the beer. As he exited, the suspect opened the beer and poured in onto the floor and onto the Victim. Officers detained the Suspect a block away and discovered he was in possession of brass knuckles, a large knife, and Marijuana. The Suspect was arrested and booked at County Jail One on the following charges: Possession a Prohibited Weapon, Theft, Resisting Arrest, Battery. Marijuana Possession for Sale, Warrant (Arrest) 04/24/ Hours Geary Blvd & 21st Ave Officers observed a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. Officers observed a knife in the Suspect s waist band and had him exit the vehicle for their safety. A records check revealed the Suspect had and an outstanding warrant, a suspended license, and was an associate with the Norteno Street Gang. An arrest search of the Suspect revealed a large amount of US currency in different denominations, and a zip lock bag of a leafy green substance (suspected Marijuana). An inventory search of the vehicle revealed a large container with more suspected Marijuana, and additional zip lock bags in smaller amounts of the suspected Marijuana. Officers also located a scale and additional packaging material indicating the suspected Marijuana was for sales and not personal use. The Suspect was arrested and booked at County Jail One on the following charges: Controlled Substance Possession for Sale and Transportation, Driving License Suspended, Outstanding Warrant. 9
