2 PSI is the global union federation for public sector & public services trade unions was founded in PSI represents: 20 million public services workers 669 affiliated trade unions 154 countries and territories providing services in central & national government, health and social care, municipal and community services, and public utilities.

3 PSI is organized into four regions: Europe Inter-America Asia & Pacific Africa and Arab Countries

4 PSI members/sectors in the Asia Pacific Region As of today PSI has 112 unions affiliated from the Asia Pacific Region and estimated with 1.5 million members from 26 countries. Out of this: 6 countries are 100% 1 country 75% 6 countries 50% 4 countries 25% 9 countries are 10% indexed which makes the average regional index approximately 45%

7 PSI campaigns for the interests of public sector workers. Since 1907, PSI has coordinated public sector struggles for workers rights, social and economic justice, and efficient and accessible public services.

8 PSI presents the public sector case at the International Labour Organisation and other United Nations bodies, the World Bank and the regional development banks like ADB, the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organisation, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development and many others.

9 PSI campaigns to improve the quality of public services. This involves working closely with international organisations, national governments, consumer lobbies, community organisations and NGOs. PSI solidarity and union development projects help affiliated unions by providing training and capacity-building support on the ground, especially in countries where trade unions are fighting for recognition. In the photo is Mr. Arif Islam, an officer of the Angkasa Pura I airport workers union in Indonesia, who was suspended from 2008 as a result of their strike from CB negotiation deadlock. He was re-instated back to work in March 2013, through the joint campaign of PSI affiliates in Indonesia & international pressure from PSI.

11 How PSI works PSI s international office is next to Geneva on the French-Swiss border. PSI has regional bases in Barbados, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, India, Japan, Lebanon, Singapore, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Togo, Ukraine and the USA. PSI affiliates meet at Congress every five years to develop a program of action which forms the basis for all PSI work. The Congress also elects an Executive Board.
