MARKET SNAPSHOT New York DMA The New York Designated Market Area (DMA) is the most populous and densely populated area in the U.S. with a total 2016 population of 21,438,229 and a population density of 1,886 persons per square mile. The population density of Manhattan is 71,436 persons per square mile. The New York DMA includes all five boroughs of New York City, all of Long Island, portions of New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pike County, Pennsylvania. There are 7,879,425 households in the DMA and the median annual household income is nearly $70,000. The racial and ethnic mix of New York is extremely complex. The non-hispanic White population, made up of many different European ethnicities is currently about 48% of the population, but by 2021 will represent 46% of the total as multicultural segments grow to 54% of the total population.
GEOSCAPE 02 Hispanic immigrants from Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic historically made up the majority of the Hispanic population, but recent trends show a significant surge in Mexican, Central and South American groups. Over the past 26 years, since 1990, the Hispanic population has grown more than 90% to more than 5 million. Almost ¾ of the Hispanic population in the New York DMA is bi-lingual. Although smaller in total numbers, the Asian population has seen triple-digit growth of 163% in the same period. The growth is emanating primarily from China/Taiwan, India, Philippines and Korea.
GEOSCAPE 03 Over 51% of the population in the New York DMA is multicultural. Hispanics account for the largest multicultural segment accounting for roughly 1 out of 4 individuals in the DMA. The majority of the Hispanic population in the New York DMA is of Caribbean descent. The Puerto Rican and Dominican populations combined account for over 54% of the Hispanic population.
GEOSCAPE 04 Geoscape s Hispanicity TM is the industry leading Hispanic segmentation system that provides actionable marketing insights by defining Hispanic households by the level of acculturation. Over two thirds of the Hispanic population falls into the more acculturated segments (HA1-HA3). Almost 1 out of 3 Hispanics in the New York DMA are unacculturated (HA4/HA5).
GEOSCAPE 05 Dominant Race or Ethnicity - The variation in dominant race or ethnicity is illustrated by ZIP code for the New York DMA. The map shows there are clusters of Hispanics in North Jersey, Queens, North Manhattan/Bronx and Long Island. This Market Snapshot is produced by Geoscape using the Geoscape Intelligence System (GIS) Marketscape DataStream Series For a FREE test drive of GIS, point your browser to: Call or info@geoscape.com
GEOSCAPE 06 HH Income Median Median household income is illustrated by census tract for the New York DMA. The areas in North New Jersey like Paterson, Elizabeth and Newark, along with clusters north of Manhattan and Queens are home to a large population falling in the lower end of the median household income range - under $35,000. This Market Snapshot is produced by Geoscape using the Geoscape Intelligence System (GIS) Marketscape DataStream Series For a FREE test drive of GIS, point your browser to: Call or info@geoscape.com
