Monitoring of the reintegration process. 15:45 16:00 Coffee break 16:00 17:30 Session 4: Rehabilitation of the Victims of Trafficking Presenter: Dr. Olga Milinchuk, General Physician / Administrator, Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Trafficking On 8 February 2002, with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), IOM opened the IOM Medical Rehabilitation Center in Kyiv for the effective treatment of victims of trafficking. The Center was opened in cooperation with the Interministerial Coordination Group (IGC) and Ukrainian health authorities in Kyiv. The work of the Center is being continued with funding from the US Department of State s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, SDC, Childhood Foundation and the European Union under this Project. Working with Ukrainian health authorities, the Center staff, which consists of a general medical practitioner, gynecologist, psychologist, and twelve nurses, provides all social and psychological counseling, gynecological and medical examinations, and treatment in a sensitive and confidential manner. All services are provided under one roof on a voluntary basis and include: general health examinations and diagnostic assistance; direct health care and, if necessary, patients are referred for specialized treatment to an appropriate health facility; and counseling services for psychological/ psychiatric treatment, pre-and post HIV testing, and reproductive and sexual health conditions including sexually transmitted infections (STIs). While receiving care, victims stay in the Rehabilitation Center rooms. Each room houses two women and has a separate bathroom. Thirteen women can be accommodated at one time. The Center also includes a cafeteria and a small classroom, where the staff conducts group therapy sessions, gives lessons on reproductive health, and counsels victims to identify realistic employment goals and vocational training necessary to achieve such goals. This not intended to be a longterm facility for victims of trafficking.
