Why is HT important for our members? Aviation is often misused as mean to facilitate human trafficking. Security there is a link between HT and terrorism Airlines will face more regulation - we need to get ahead of the regulatory curve Good corporate citizens (i.e. CSR) - there are legal, reputational and investor relations risks relating to TIP that airlines need to be aware of and to mitigate Moral obligation to do the right thing 21
Airlines can expect more legislation Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children (Palermo Protocol of 2000), Article 11 Border Measures Each State Party shall adopt legislative or other appropriate measures to prevent, to the extent possible, means of transport operated by commercial carriers from being used in the commission of offences established in accordance with article 5 of this Protocol. UN General Assembly New York Declaration (2016) indicated We will establish or upgrade..national and regional antihuman trafficking policies
We already have aviation specific regulations
..and wider regulations that impact supply chains UK MSA requires commercial organizations to prepare human trafficking statement each financial year Steps taken to ensure slavery and trafficking has not taken place in supply chains in its business Affects over 80 airlines Other States working on regulation (e.g. France and Australia).
UN SDGs are focused on tackling tip
ICAO is involved UN Assembly mandated ICAO to develop guidance on cabin crew training ICAO Cabin Safety Group developing Guidelines for Cabin Crew on Human Trafficking Recognition and Response Tailored to aviation Will set benchmark Expected early 2018 ICAO participating in UN Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT)
An industry response to help mitigate regulatory, investor relations and reputational risks by: ä Developing and promoting guidance and training materials for customer facing staff ( recognize the signs ) ä Promote standardized reporting protocols ä Share best practice and partner with other players in value chain ä General awareness raising
A Approach è Assess the problem è Research existing policy and risk assessment è Start stakeholders analysis è Get airlines buy in & engagement è Prepare Resolution Governance Partnership è With law enforcement, Governments, IOs, airport and airlines è For better prevention of TIP è For coordination of efforts è To retrieve better data è To engage on migration & refugees routes è Internal and external è Trainings è Educational and awareness tools è If you see it you say it: TIP reporting è Awareness events è Capacity Building è Airlines get together and share Education Communication è Blue Heart Campaigns and pilots è TIP branding è TIP days, separated or embedded with existing events è TIP days (30 July WW/ 18 October EU)

Every mind equipped with the wisdom and Dexterity for independent change, so every voice can be expressed at liberty.
What is the global risk of Trafficking in human beings? Like most serious human conditions, hard to define with precision Therefore hard to quantify (but important to try to) Macro-economic and macro-demographic data are clear Individual case studies are clearly generic not unique Between the macro and the individual scale, things are not clear Safe working assumptions include:- Trafficking is a dark economy worth multi Billions $ Trafficking is often transnational and is organised crime Trafficking is for forced labour including bonded debt labour and child labour domestic servitude sexual exploitation of children and women Trafficking, especially between continents, is facilitated by air Every mind equipped with the wisdom and Dexterity for independent change, so every voice can be expressed at liberty.

Every mind equipped with the wisdom and Dexterity for independent change, so every voice can be expressed at liberty.
What is the risk to the air transport industry? Like most security risks, it s also a corporate risk Like all risks, identification and understanding come first Exposure to manipulation by transnational organised crime groups Critical incident / reputational harm, collective or individual Failure to comply with existing or emerging legislation Other external regulation Trial by the court of public or political opinion Integral part of the risk management structure Every mind equipped with the wisdom and Dexterity for independent change, so every voice can be expressed at liberty.
