Competence portfolio and pedagogical tools to identify, recognise, validate and improve the competences acquired by migrant women in formal, non-formal and informal learning contexts LLP- Grundtvig Multilateral project: LLP ES-GRUNDTVIG-GMP

The starting point Migrant women are in a vulnerable situation in the EU in terms of employability and social inclusion. Gender and origin crisscross as disadvantage factors for migrant women. Not recognition of their previous experiences loss of talent and increase of their social exclusion.

A model for migrant women To create an innovative methodology based on the concept of competences for inclusion. Adapted to the common experiences of migrant women But flexible, so that it may be used with diverse migrant women and in a variety of contexts (different countries of origin, different host countries, cultural and ethnic background, etc.)

Main elements of the Forward model Empowerment

Forward process Research Creation of the methodology Pilot test Final materials Migrant women s experiences always in the centre

Criteria for the selection of competences Developed by migrant women, specially during the migration process THE 25 FORWARD COMPETENCES Fundamental for their empowerment and social inclusion Frequently identified during the research in the 6 partner countries Identified in the context of the EU Key competences

The 25 Forward competences 1. Communication 2. Mathematical competence 3. Digital competence 4. Awareness of the host country environment and use of services 5. Job and information search 6. 15 23. MANAGEMENT OF BICULTURAL IDENTITY Capacity to access two (or more) cultural frames actively and to keep two (or more) cultural identities in a positive way (a competence which is likely to grow with the duration of stay in the host country). ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE KNOWLEDGE ATTITUDES SKILLS Knowledge of the culture of the host country (traditions, language, customs). Knowledge of the culture of origin (traditions, language, customs). Appreciation and positive attitude towards two (or more) different cultures and the willingness to understand and value both (all) of them. Willingness to integrate different views and values (in the sense of: tolerance for contradictions). Shifting between different cultural systems and adjusting one s perceptions and behaviour accordingly. Integrating different views and values (tolerance for contradictions). Adapting to different social environments.

Creation of the Forward methodology A series of tools (more than 40) for identifying, developing and promoting validation of competences. Most tools are experiential and visual.

Forward methodology Main Forward tools: Forward Questionnaire for self-evaluation of competences and map of competences.

Competence portfolio Inspired in Europass. 8 sections. To be filled in throughout the course

Pilot test of the methodology 150 migrant women from non-eu countries, Africa, Asia and Latin America participated in the pilot test. The aim was to test the methodology and tools with migrant women. Afterwards, some tools were modified (questionnaire) or removed.

Final materials Handbook for professionals, with the conceptual framework. Toolbox for professionals: pedagogical tools to put in practice the Forward methodology (questionnaire, portfolio, etc.). Available on the Forward website:
