Balasubramanian Research Supervisor Anna University, Chennai ABSTRACT This Paper deals with the Analysis of Patent Intensity, derived from the Resident Patent Filling Based on GDP of the Nation. The Comparative Analysis of the Patent Intensity is with respect to the SAARC Nations. Though the Classification of the Country is based on the development, hence SAARC Nations are Classify under the Developing Nations it has been taken into account. Keywords: Patent Intensity, GDP, Intellectual Property. INTRODUCTION Intellectual Property, which plays a Major and vital Role in the Economy of the Developing Countries. The Countries GDP Growth Potentially depends on the Intellectual Property. The percentage of hike in GDP is invariably depends on the Patenting of the New inventions. WIPO is the Central nervous System which coordinates the IP Globally. SAARC was established on 8 December 1985 in order to provide the Promotion of economic and Social Progress. It is dedicated to economic, technological, social, and cultural development emphasizing collective self-reliance. The seven founding members are Sri Lanka, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Afghanistan joined the organization in Meetings of heads of state are usually scheduled annually; meetings of foreign secretaries, twice annually. It is headquartered in Kathmandu, Nepal. 25
Objective of the Research Work Scope: To know the Status of IP in India among the SAARC Nations. To know the Potential Effort on the IP Asset in India in compared with SAARC. To know the GDP Growth in India and the Neighborhood Nations(SAARC). Obtaining the Various Benchmark in accordance with the other Countries to grow up the Indian Economy Based on the GDP Growth RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Patent Intensity of the SAARC Nations has been analyzed under various Circumstances. This Paper Analyses the Patent Intensity Based on Resident Filling Patent Application based on GDP in Billion$. Resident patent filings per $billion Gross Domestic Product ( ) Source: WIPO Statistics Database and World Bank (World Development Indicators), October 2011 Note: Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data are in billions of US dollars, based on 2005 purchasing power parities. Country of Origin Bangladesh India Sri Lanka Pakistan *Afganisthan, Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal has not Filled any Patents during the above mentioned years. Source: WIPO 26
Patent Application based on GDP Correlation Co-Efficient Correlation Co-efficient for the Resident Patent fillings $billion Gross Domestic Product between the Year Below stated is the analysis for Correlation on 2 categories, Kendall`s and Spearman`s Correlation. The GDP is based on the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). Table-1: Kendall`s Correlation Co-Efficient Significance Level *-0.05 Significance Level **-0.01 Correlation 27
Table-2: Table-1: Spearman`s Correlation Co-Efficient Significance Level *-0.05 Significance Level **-0.01 Correlation Coefficient is calculated for 2-tailed Test, with the correlation Significance at two Levels 0.05 and The Above Table-1(Kendall`s Correlation Coefficient) and Table-2 (Spearman`s Correlation Co-Efficient) Shows that the Significant Correlation between the Values. This indicates the GDP growth is correlated with each other Countries with respect to the Years. But in 2010 India and Pakistan had never acquired any GDP Income Based on the WIPO Source. 28
Graphical Chart on Resident Patent Filling in Billion $GDP Figure-1: Graphical Chart on Resident Patent Filling in Billion $GDP The Above Graphical Representation which helps us to know about the Resident Patent Filling Based on GDP. Graphical Analysis In the Above Graph, X-Axis which indicates the Year from whereas the Y- Axis, has been marked as the GDP in Billion$. Four countries were arranged in the Order and they Put together in each year respectively for the analysis of Resident Filing of Patents. Bangladesh Shows the very nominal Growth while compared to the other SAARC Nations. In the Year 2000 the Resident Patent Filling is greater while compared with the other Years. Being the Developing nation and with the greater Population density with the Scarcity of the Place. The Resident Patent Filling Growth is very constructive. Pakistan is having the Steady state growth with respect to the Patent filling based on Resident. The Graphical representation clearly depicts the constructive growth in every year wherever there will be notable decline in the year Srilanka is the Lead most Player in Resident Patent Filling in the Last Decade based on this Analysis. This Steady Growth Which Shows that Srilanka is perfectly in the Growth Path 29
and it leads to the Sustainable Growth in Future. Based on this One Decade Analysis, it Perfectly Categorises the patent Ability in their Country and that Leads the Country in next Stage as a Developed Country. Being an Island with so many National Threats they are likely able to file the Resident Patents. The Origin of the Srilanka shows the Capability of Filing the Patent than the Other Nations in SAARC Countries. India is a Developing Country, as the Resident Patent Filling Indicates. India is having the Steady Growth state in case of Resident Patent Filling. This Indicates that the Intellectual Property growth is based on the Patent Filling. The GDP in Billion$ which emphasizes the rate of growth in the field of patenting. The Steady state Growth is the Constructive and Sustainable Phase in improvement Mechanism. Whereas the Year 2010 which made us to think about the Patent Filing. There is no data provided in the WIPO for the Year 2010 in Country of Origin (India). This Shows the Very Steep Decline which goes to the Critical acclamation on the global arena. In a steady Growth State, this kind of declination which leads to the Destructive Criticism. Comparison and Conclusion The comparison of the Resident Patent Filling in billion$ in India with respect to the Other SAARC Countries. Though Maldives, Butan and Nepal doesn`t have any data in the WIPO Regarding the Resident Patent Filing. Also the Afganisthan is not included in the WIPO Resident Patent filing, the Afganisthan is included in SAARC Nations in So we excluded comparing the above Countries with respect to India. While India is compared with Bangladesh, The Growth Rate of india is Very Higher. The Constructive acclamation is that the sustainable growth Rate is very Higher than that of the Bangladesh. But the Critical Criticism shows that the Bangladesh is very Small Country with less Population when compared with India. In India, Literate Human Resource is very high. Hence the Comparative Analysis states that the Bangladesh is in Growth Path as Compared with India. 30
Being India is compared with Pakistan, It Claims the Challenge with both of these Countries. This critically goes a tough everywhere. This analysis Cleary indicates that India is a Developing Country with all the Growth Factor especially in Intellectual Property Area. On a Comparative Analysis India Holds a good complement rather than that of Pakistan. The Serious Issue is Coming Over here, while comparing with the Srilanka. India While Compared with the Srilanka. There is a Lot of Variations in the Resident Patent Filling in Billion$ GDP.Sri lanka Holds a Good lead among the SAARC Countries. Henceforth while compared with the India, Srilanka is in Lead. Being a very small Nation and with the Very small Population density it holds the lead in Resident Patent Filing in SAARC Nations. References
