3 DEERS DEERS Receives Data Feeds from many government databases Personal Database of Record for Service Member all branches of service Social SecurityAdministration Contractor Verification System State Employee Database Federal Technician Database Data feeds various government agencies

4 Reserve Retired ID Transfer Education entitlements BEFORE issuance Issuance terminates CAC/digital signature capability No ID authorized if you take a severance payment Brevetted ranks are NOT authorized in DEERS Can be issued 90 days in advance of retirement date

5 DEERS Adding/Removing Dependents Only the Sponsor or Power of Attorney (POA) holder for Sponsor can add or delete dependents from a Sponsor s DEERS Record. Sponsor or POA holder must present valid original source documents to a DEERS credentialed operator before dependents can be added/removed. Call ahead and verify what source documents are required

6 DEERS Sponsor Responsibilities Update DEERS within 30 days of effective date of event in regards to eligibility of benefits for self and dependents. (Remove Divorced Spouse) Retrieve ID cards from dependents no longer eligible and surrender to nearest ID card issuing activity within 30 days of loss of eligibility. Update address change within 30 days of residential move

7 Children Unmarried children eligible until age 21 Child marries sponsor removes from DEERS record Child enlists into regular component-sponsor removes All children age out of DEERS at age 21 Unmarried college student college memo-age Tricare Young Adult age or age (If sponsor has current TRICARE eligibility)

8 Dependents Other Types Incapacitated Child over age 21 Foster Child Ward of Court Child Parents Common Law Spouse All require a lengthy application process to the national office requesting a Favorable Dependency Determination.

9 20/20/15 or 20/20/20 = Divorce Has Soldier been in military 20 or more years Has Soldier and spouse been married 20 or more years From date of marriage to day before retirement is there 15+ but less than 20 or 20+ years of overlap. TRICARE is NOT negotiable in a divorce decree TRICARE is a military entitlement you are eligible by federal policy or you are not eligible.

10 ID Cards Sponsor/Spouse/all children age 18+ required to present two forms of identity from DMDC acceptable Proof of Identity List, EVERYTIME an ID is issued. Call ahead and verify what is an authorized Identity Document. Sponsor/POA holder required to be with dependent EVERYTIME an ID is issued.

11 Sponsor or POA Signature REQUIRED to be witnessed every time Dependent ID issued Sponsor accompanies dependent to ID Office. Sponsor visits ID Office prior to dependents visit. Dependent has 90 days to get their ID issued. POA holder with POA document visits ID Office ID Card Office Online Onlinehttps:// authenticated?execution=e1s1 Call ID Office and ensure DD generated.

12 DS Logon Request your DS Logon using your current CAC prior to the effective date of your discharge order. (Your CAC is disabled effective date of discharge.) Register for DS Logon at - OR request a DS Logon when getting your Reserve Retired ID issues. ID Card Staff can request for you.
