5 Student Visa holders can apply for a variation of conditions to work part time up to 20 hours. Enrolled in a fulltime course for at least 2 years; Or Enrolled in a course that results in Skilled Migrant Category points;

8 Graduated but no job yet? When you ve completed an SMC Points qualification* You can apply for 12 month open Graduate Job Search Visa no job offer required Allows you to look for AND take up a job offer immediately *Subject to changes from 2 April 2012
9 Graduate work visa criteria if started study after 2 April 2012: Must have successfully completed a NZ qualification that qualifies for points under SMC To be eligible must have completed recognised NZ qualification of at least 2 Academic years unless: Completed 2 courses of at least one academic year each which are SMC points accruing courses (level 4-6) and the second course must be at a higher level OR completed a post graduate qualification of at least one year academic duration OR completed a credit transferred bachelors degree with at least 1 year study in NZ OR completed any level 7 qualification of at least 1 academic year
10 Found a job? When you ve completed an SMC Points qualification You can apply for 2 year Graduate Work Experience Visa Job offer must be relevant to your qualification OR Proceed directly to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC)

12 The Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Designed to facilitate entry of skilled migrants with skills New Zealand needs and ability to successfully settle in New Zealand. Works on a points system selection point can change Earn points for: Job or job offer in NZ Experience and qualifications Age and family situation

14 Current selection point for SMC 100 points needed to submit and Expression of Interest 140 points = automatic selection from the pool 100 to 135 points: with points for a skilled job / job offer likely to be selected with points for work experience or qualifications in a skill shortage area may be selected if there are enough places available
15 Job points for Skilled Migrant Category Skilled employment: NZ job offer or NZ job you have been in for less than 12 months 50 points NZ job you have been in for more than 12 months 60 points Bonus points if your job is: In a skill shortage area LTSSL 10 points In an identified growth area 10 points Outside of the Auckland region 10 points Or if your partner has a skilled job or job offer 20 points
16 Skilled Employment Skilled employment is employment that requires specialist, technical or management expertise: Check the ANZSCO list /work/skilledmigrant/ Occupations, qualifications, skill level, job descriptions
17 RETAIL SUPERVISOR Alternative Titles: Checkout Supervisor Sales Department Supervisor Tasks: Supervises and coordinates the activities of retail sales workers; ensuring that customers receive prompt service and quality goods and services; responding to customers' inquiries and complaints about goods and services; planning and preparing work schedules and assigning staff to specific duties; interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, dismissing and promoting staff, and resolving staff grievances; instructing staff on how to handle difficult and complicated sales procedures; examining returned goods and deciding on appropriate action; taking inventory of goods for sale and ordering new stock; ensuring that goods and services are correctly priced and displayed; ensuring safety and security procedures are enforced Qualification: NZ Register Level 2 or 3 qualification Skill Level: 4 Level s 4-5 considered to be semi or low skilled
18 RETAIL MANAGER Alternative Titles: Retail Store Manager Shop Manager Tasks: determining product mix, stock levels and service standards; formulating and implementing purchasing and marketing policies, and setting prices promoting and advertising the establishment's goods and services; selling goods and services to customers and advising them on product use; maintaining records of stock levels and financial transactions; undertaking budgeting for the establishment; controlling selection, training and supervision of staff; ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations Qualification: NZ Register Diploma Skill Level: 2 Level s 1-3 considered to be skilled
19 Definition of skilled employment Skilled employment is employment that requires specialist, technical or management expertise: obtained through the completion of recognised relevant qualifications; or obtained through recognised relevant work experience; or obtained through the completion of recognised relevant qualifications and work experience. If Registration is required this MUST be provided at application stage
20 Qualification points for SMC (started study on/before 25 July 2011) Recognised basic qualification 50 Recognised post-graduate qualification 55 Bonus points for : 2 years of full-time study in New Zealand towards a recognised qualification 5 A recognised basic New Zealand qualification (e.g. trade qualification, diploma, bachelors degree, bachelors degree with Honours) 5 A recognised post-graduate New Zealand qualification ( Masters/Doctorate) 10 Qualification in an identified future growth area 10 Qualification in an area of absolute skill shortage 10 Partner qualifications 20

25 English Language requirements Principal applicant must meet English language requirements by either having a demonstrated English language background or score IELTS 6.5 Non principal applicants must either have an acceptable English language background or minimum score of IELTS 5 or can pre-purchase ESOL. However if claiming points for Qualification or Job offer, then they must also meet IELTS 6.5 Applies to all persons 16 years or over
