20 Overview of how safe Ireland is for women and children living with domestic violence Post 5 years of austerity Recession has been catastrophic for women and children experiencing to domestic violence When a woman does manage to find a way to seek support at a minimum she should expect an effective & appropriate response to her and her children Austerity has pared away a fragile system and increased barriers to safety for women and their children

21 A dismal record In the FRA study Ireland had the highest rate of all countries in Europe for not meeting women s needs when they sought assistance after the most serious incident of violence by a partner.
