9 FORM F: Steps taken implement Article 8 of the Procol: Co-operation and assistance New Zealand 01/01/ /12/2013 Steps taken implement the provisions of Article 8: UNMAS The New Zealand Aid Programme provides NZ$1 million annually in untagged flexible core funding UNMAS (the UN Mine Action Service) support the organisation's work in removing and destroying mines, explosive remnants of war and sckpiles, risk education and advocacy. New Zealand also provides $500,000 annually for UNMAS Rapid Response and Technical Support Capacity. International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) The New Zealand Aid Programme provides NZ$2.5 million each year in untagged core funding support ICRC's work, including physical rehabilitation and preventative unexploded ordnance action programmes which focus on risk reduction, education and advocacy work. Those programmes aim reduce the human cost of mines and explosive remnants of war. Other international/un agencies The New Zealand Aid Programme also prioritises core funding other UN agencies such as UNICEF, UNDP, UNHCR, OCHA, OHCHR and WFP, all of which undertake unexploded ordnance clearance activities as part of their work. Funding is also directed the World Bank, which helps address the long-term consequences of mines and unexploded ordnance on economic and social development. Cambodia The New Zealand Aid Programme is providing US$1 million fund a project, which runs from , on landmine and unexploded ordnance clearance in Cambodia. Egypt Following earlier funding the UNDP/Egyptian Government mine and unexploded ordnance clearance action programme, the New Zealand Aid Programme has contributed NZ$600,000 for a UNDP project develop agriculture in previously mined land in Egypt. The project will runs through Mozambique In 2012 the New Zealand Aid Programme provided US$100,000 assist the completion of
10 landmine clearance in the Dondo district of Sofala province. Syria The New Zealand Aid Programme has contributed NZ$12.5 million the Syrian regional crisis response date. This has included $2.5m the ICRC for operations in Syria and Lebanon including medical assistance war-wounded people. West Bank Since November 2011, New Zealand contributed $2.7m the UNMAS West Bank De-Mining Programme. The programme will also assist with the development of a Palestinian Action Centre (PMAC) capable of managing all aspects of mine action within the West Bank. Over 2014 and 2015 the New Zealand Aid Programme will provide up $3m the HALO Trust, an international demining NGO, clear two minefields (a-nabi Elyas and Jinsafut) in the West Bank. opt Funding of NZ$175,000 was committed the Office of the Quartet for the employment of a movements and access adviser for humanitarian access in the opt, including access for clearance agencies and supplies. Pacific In 2013, the New Zealand Defence Force conducted extensive UXO (unexploded ordnance) clearance activities in the Solomon Islands, Kiribati and Vanuatu in close collaboration with the US, Australian and Canadian defence forces.
